If all you play is Bethesda and Bioware games, sure
>>
>decide to play
>get to first town
>first thing i do to solve the murder is go to the cemetery
>dig up the coffin
>progress through the murder quest, evelyn runs away
>told about the hall of explorers or whatever
>didn't get an inert stone from evelyn because she ran away
>can't unlock the hall

It's a stupid game. They don't let you investigate on your own or anything like that. They just expect you to talk to everybody and the story will progress by itself.

Needless to say I dropped it.
>>

Beyond Divinity and Dagron Commandwhore were really the only two shitty titles. Divine Divinity had unprecedented interactivity with the game world. It also required serious effort due to difficulty.

The whole game's a chore. NPCs that are too fucking chatty, spewing the same 2 lines constantly. Got to the point where I would turn my speakers off whenever I went to the market in town so I didn't have to hear 20 cunts talking about their fresh tomatoes.

Then there's every single thing related to inventory management and crafting.

It's rare that a game suffers from too much content, it's certainly the case here. You go into town and every single faggot has an errand for you. You talk to the fucking cats and the fucking cats have quests. It completely shits on the game's pacing.
>>
>>332943526
Kek what the fuck

>>
>>332942998

It's large, which is fine for immersion but adds time to actually going places. When I warp back to town to repair my gear and sell/identify shit walking back to lady in the inn or market. Many quests, especially those early couple, have you bounce around from one end to the other and suck up a huge amount of time.

There's also a few places that have only entry point that takes extra time to reach when they could have added some more ramps or stairs.

With lv5 in both crafting and smithing you can make weapons better than divine tier, on par with endgame uniques.

But in most cases you will need to look up a crafting table to know what ingredients are and hoard everything as you play through the game.

Better equipment than anything you can find through drops.
Blacksmithing buffs that dramatically boost your damage.
Shitloads of grenades and special arrows.

Basically if you don't go through the busywork of putting Thing A on Thing B after transferring everything to your Crafting/Blacksmithing mule (Because you don't want to waste points on your actual combat characters, right?) you get screwed out of a ton.

I assume he is talking about the conversations between the protagonists, and getting + Pragmatic, + Romantic and such depending on your choices, and having these impact your in game stats if you make consistent choices.

They are removing the Rock, Paper, Scissors part in DOS2, check their PC Gamer presentation. Very ambitious with the four player co-op and adding the possibility for players to fuck each other up.

It's the exact same shit as the crafting system. You can ignore tedious quests, and tedious crafting and smithing, but you miss out on a ton of shit if you do.

I haven't even gotten into the unforgivable "personality" system where you get bonuses for talking to people a certain way, but certain bonuses are objectively better than the opposite so everyone ends being Altruistic Independent Righteous Blunt Compassionate Pragmatic Spiritual Bold and Forgiving.
>>
Wasn't Larian mad when they found out the majority of people who played the game were male? Like they expected a huge female audience.
>>
>>332946562

More like surprised. During their conventions and presentations a third of the public was females, so they were surprised that during the campaign less than a third of supporters were female.

Basically missed the part where female fans are more likely to go to conventions, so they will appear as a larger part of the whole community at them.

Yep, in that same post they said that they thought they are capturing the interest of more women than they actually did.
So for the next game (DOS2) they will market it in such a way that they get more females to play. Thus the romances and "darker, more serious" setting. Those are the two things they are changing to get girls to play.

I really enjoyed Original Sin, but it suffers from a weak narrative and stretching on too long. The first area is fantastic and the core combat is really fun as you first discover all these effect combinations and how you can use the environment in fights, but as it progresses the areas get more and more linear and the combat never really changes it up. You're just using the exact same tactics against slightly different looking enemies.

Mind you this was back at launch, I know the enhanced edition added the "Tactics" mode or whatever that makes encounters harder so maybe that fixes some of my complaints about the combat

Not him but, I don't think adding/advertising more romance will make women want to play this game. At least not in a way I see the game working in. They would have to go DA:O and have the ability to fuck everything and with cutscenes and I don't think that fits here. Or dumb down the game a bit, A lot of women I know don't even know about the game or if I've explained it they don't like how much stuff there is in it. It's just too much for them.

I'm the only female that has played this it seems and all my "gamer" friends refuse. They won't even couch co-op it.

London?

But seriously. I don't even think more romances would help. I can't imagine women suddenly flocking to the game just because of romance. If the game didn't interest them in the first place then adding some minor stuff to the second won't.
>>
>>332950126
I've brought it up to about 10-15 girls and some of their bf/husbands. Not a single girl was actually interested besides the initial oh that sounds cool and never bought it. While the boys, at least some were actually interested and ended up picking it up and playing together. I inquired why they wouldn't even play with them and most said it just looked "boring". I don't think they can do anything to fix this to get a big enough jump in women sales. Maybe trick a couple into it but even then I doubt they will finish it.

It's sad that they have such shit taste because the game is a ton of fun.
>>
>>332949907
Well they did ask in the comments where the girls are, why they arent playing, etc.
Romances and darker themes were the answers they got, so thats what they are doing now.

They dont want to make the game less likable for men, they just want all of these women, four billions and counting, to be their potential customers. Its an untapped market.
>>
It's still sitting in my library waiting to be played. I'm waiting for my friend to get a new graphics card though since his old piece of shit one doesn't support DX 11.
Looks like a lot of fun though.
>>
>>332950126
Maybe if the story was focused entirely on a complex romance they could be interested. But then it would ruin the game for the men.
>>
>>332949907

I had to stop couch co-oping it with my friend since it was driving him crazy. He was reasonably frustrated when his archer that was built for accuracy couldn't hit enemies at close by while enemy archers and my wand dude could snipe shit at any distance.
>>
>>332941869
This game's combat is shit. I hate it.
>>
>>332947831
If you read a walkthrough for Divinity you're missing half the game. Also, if you're implying the only way to know that quest exists is by looking it up, you're an idiot.
>>
>>332950613
Oh I get it from a business standpoint it's smart and I don't think they are going to just throw away the reasons men like the game. I just don't think it will work the way they're thinking. In my experience women have shallow taste and don't like games with too much depth. There are obviously exceptions to this but in general that's why most don't want to deal with the game, it feels like too much work. I think this is the same reason games like Baulders Gate or PoE aren't popular, actually never met a girl who likes Civ/Xcom genre either. I'm not sure they'll be able to do much about this.

>>332950920
Besides that is the couch co-op any good? I played the original when it first came out on steam then the EE but never picked it up on console. I just sometimes want a comfy couch game, is this one of those?
>>
>>332950613
unfortunately plenty of men asked for romances, too, and the darker theme change is also due to global feedback - many people including myself didn't enjoy the overdone light heartedness and humor in the game.

It's not really a romance or story focus that's the issue is the rest of the game isn't super accessible for a casual to moderate skill female audience. D:OS has a hard enough time connecting with a similar male demographic.

Bioware RPGs can hit that mark right because they're pretty easy.
>>
>>332950920
Dont archers have an ability that basically makes it guaranteed for them to hit? Something like +40% to hit, when you would never be as low as 60% before it?

The best of 2014 for sure. Shame it was a tad too short maybe after Cyseal.
>>
>>332951374
Well I think in DOS2 you will choose some background, and that will basically be this character's main quest, which is different than other character's main quests, and different from the party's main quest.
And there will probably be some romance/lost love type background, so you will see unique dialogue options for this character referring to it, and unique objectives on their path to finding their loved one.
This does sound like something a girl would enjoy, in my experience. My female friends that play actual vidya and not just minigames play stuff like Witcher 3 and Inquisition, because they have strong relationship driven quest lines, and reference relations often.
Less politics and duty, more love or revenge.
>>
>>332951374

>Besides that is the couch co-op any good?

It's alright. It's a bit awkward to set up and sometimes the game shuffles control of the characters's randomly, but once you get going it works. You also have to make a campaign with the two player setup in mine. It's shame he can't have his dude and I can't have mine join a shared sessions instead of me creating a two player campaign and have him log into his own dude.

During combat it's basically identical to you passing control off to another person, but outside of it there's some nice benefits like being able to split up for searching for stuff. Also lets you avoid micromanaging your whole party by yourself.

If you got a bud who is into the idea and is ok with scheduling game nights it works, but it lacks the pick up and play of more standard couch multiplayer games.
>>
>>332951374

Define "modern RPG".

DivOS was okay as turn-based game and all, but devs went full retard at some point, when they started to nerf everything and disabled mercs adjusting level to your party. In game where there are no respawning enemies.

Oh and game was too linear. In theory, you had freedom, in pracise, you had to follow the same line anyway, to the same ending. With same optimized builds.

I dont know how it changed with this whole "enhanced edition", I played normal one shortly after release. Fun for first half, then lost all momentum and was boring at the end. But at least I could make pretty powerful couple with absurd amount of AP, which was of course disabled later, because "muh balance".

He said "modern" RPG.

While Divinity had a shit story it really progressed RPGs forward. It has one of the best engines I've ever played in. The interactibility is fantastic. The combat is ace as well and graphic and world have a unique aesthetic/charm to it. Also finally a good TURN BASED RPG again.

PoE pretty much copy-pasted everything from older RPGs and still didn't manage to even come close to them. It's just a nostalgia wank.

So even if Divinity was far from perfect, you have to appreciate the game for trying and moving RPGs in the right direction.
