Dark souls 2 isn't nearly as good as bloodborne, but it's still a souls games and pretty good on its own.
What I liked about dks2 was the length of it. It's really, really fucking long, especially if you include all the dlc, which is almost another game in itself.
It's not optimized as well as the other games, but I'd still say it's worth a buy.

The combat feels really shitty for starters. The movement feels sludgy and not as responsive as the other games. The hitbox detection is also fucked and you'll get hit when you shouldn't have been. There is also a stat you have to upgrade that increases your i-frames in your roll even though the appearance of the roll mechanic stays exactly the same. Then the world itself is really shitty and uninspired, generic looking; not like the amazing artistry of the other games. It completely lacks the atmosphere and immersion of the other games.
Miyazaki directed Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Dark Souls III (well, he apparently co-directed DaS3). Another two fags directed DaS2 and it shows. B-Team m8.
I have hundreds of hours in each of DeS, DaS1 and BB. After my first 40 hour playthrough of DaS2 I never touched it again. People say it had good DLC but you can't fix the shitty feeling combat so I never bothered to try it out. Maybe it's better but fuck that game.

yes OP, you'll probably enjoy the game a great deal. Disclaimer; I haven't played BB, but I have played Demon's and Dark Souls 1 and 2.
While I think DaS2 was inferior to those games, it's still one of the very fucking few modern AAA-titles that I can easily invest +100 hours into it without feeling bored. That's a god damn feat, as far as I'm concerned.

I bought it for my playstation over a month ago. Haven't touched it really, played for about 2 hours and it's collecting dust ever since in my backlog, can't compare this shit to Bloodborne not even the slightest and I platted Bloodborne and did many, many of the chalice dungs. I really can't bring myself back to DaS2, maybe I'll enjoy it in some aspect, but it's not nearly as good as Bloodborne.

DaS2 is honestly like if they made a souls game entirely out of chalice dungeons. Actually, it's probably even worse than that, since chalice dungeons occasionally loop around on themselves, which is more complex than any of the level design in DaS2.

By the time I finished DaS I didn't want anything more to do with it.
When I finished DaSII I wanted to immediately start a new game/go into NG+ and do it all over again.
Sure it's fucked up in some place, but it's great otherwise.
I'm replaying through the DaS right now in anticipation of DaSIII and I'll be replaying DaSII soon, so I'll see if my opinion changes.

I have a ton of great exclusives for my PS3, but if all you want is souls then I'll tell you my honest opinion. Dark Souls 2 was a major disappointment. If you can find it for $20-30 then I say go for it, but it's less well optimized than Dark Souls 1, has poorer gameplay and a really shitty story compared to DeS, DkS and BB. The world is more boring but it's still Dark Souls, so if you like that kind of gameplay you'll find some enjoyment. Personally, if you can't find it cheap, I'd just wait for 3.
