>We live in a world of multitasking and infinite options for our attention. You could argue that getting away from all that is a good thing, but in between matches of Valkyrie or while waiting for a game to load, I wished I could easily send a text, check twitter, browse the web. I can’t do that. And I can’t watch a video while I’m playing a game, or reference a guide. Until more VR games truly make use of the medium’s potential, putting on a VR headset will always start with this question: is this experience worth being completely focused on this one single activity? Is it worth the weight on my face and neck?

for fucks sake, these people are the reason why every fucking thing has twitter and facebook.

Just wait, develop some patience in life.

I was reading some philosophy article the other day that was talking about how teenagers don't 'walk' anymore, they have to listen to music or make the journey as short as possible by driving because having a second to entertain themselves leaves them bored.

It's so depressing.

Hate to say I told you so but I totally told you so. Honestly I think that mediocre score is still somewhat inflated because of the VR hype.

But at least you can watch Snoop Dogg watch youtube in 360 so I guess that's worth $2000!
>>
>>332927930
>30 second load screen
i haven't encountered >30s loading screen since gothic 3 release, and it was somewhere around beginning of core 2 duo era. But even if i did, i'd just wait - 30 seconds doesn't sound bad at all. Hell, it's better to wait and process some parts of story/experience in your head than break everything and start checking social networks.
>>
>>332929358

1985 here, I used to walk as far as 6 miles a day when I was a teenager, my mother used to "what the fuck" me all the times I got back from school on foot since "waiting for bus was too fucking boring" because school was in downtown and I was in the outskirts of the city.

I could do it music-free but I was always carrying the classic cd player whenever I had the chance to.

Now I only ride a bike around the town, I literally only walked once over the past four years because bike chain broke off and I went to find a spare replacement.

But yeah, walking in silence is probably the most boring outdoors thing in the universe bar none.
>>
>>332929706
Yeah try playing Fallout 4 loaded onto anything but an SSD and then teleport around and tell me "waiting 30 seconds isn't so bad!"

Fuck you, and fuck that shit. Thank God I was able to make room on my SSD or that would've been an unplayable mess
>>

Then you just aren't thinking enough - no-one's arguing that walking hours a day wont get tedious, but you need about an hour to think things over, get lost in thoughts etc. My walk to work and then back from the gym are great times to go over things.

I imagine teenagers now probably couldnt even visit an art gallery without facebooking throughout.

>>
>people actually thought VR would change "gaming".
Its literally motion controls and a TV glued to your face, another stupid gimmick.
The objective best way to play a game is with a controller/mouse+keyboard and a normal screen.
Nothing will change unless there is a more optimal way to work or play.

The only way VR can work is if it completely hijacks your senses. Being able to see 360 degrees like your eyes are in another world but your other senses are still in the real world can be disorienting and breaks the immersion.

But how will that shit be objectively better?
You can get tired from running on a treadmill or by just standing up whereas to walk in a game you press a single button and it will come out much faster, its much easier and faster to move your finger from the S key to the W key than it is to start running in the other direction.
Flicking your wrist with raw input and everything is also more accurate and faster than relying on motion sensors and cameras to turn around and aim a gun.
It will never be better.
My idea of the most optimal way to work and play is for things to react to your mind and its gonna be hundreds if not thousands of years for that to work accurately.
>>
>>332933939
It's logical, but inhuman to me. It's like you have a friend that deliberately doesn't pay attention to you or the film. And what happens is that they are interacting with other people over the internet. To me that is fucking rude. I put my time aside to hang out with you for a few hours and instead you are talking to your pals/gals online instead of talking in person. That is bullshit.

>>332933969
Yeah, I hate that shit. For example, I only have one single friend of mine that actually would do album listen alongs with me. You know how fucking rare it is to find someone that is patient enough to listen to music and shut up with someone else? The only time we talk during music is if we have anything to say about the lyrics and that's it. And then after that we think of what we think what the track conveys and how technically good it is.

It is a blast to talk to people in person about movies, music, audiobooks, and videos. It is not as fun when someone just links me an album or video and say, "This is dank!".

>Lack space for multi monitor set up
>Buy two extra monitors, plug them in and slot them away somewhere
>Use headset for glorious triple monitor gaming, without any screen edges
I like it.

anyone interested in pc gaming probably already has a computer. you can just upgrade your graphics card if needed. even if you need to upgrade the cpu too, you still have ram/case/storage etc that won't need to be immediately upgraded. yeah building your first ever computer is a steep investment but the point is that you can make individual upgrades. you can use your computer for far more than just video games, too.

1995 little shit here. Car was in the shop the other day. Walked a mile to Speedeay, grabbed some food, walked back to the shop and stopped at EZ Pawn on the way. Being that I'm the type of person who loves to hold imaginary conversations and envision scenarios in my head, shit was so cash because unlike driving I only have to pay attention to my surroundings, not myself. Thus making it easier. Being fat offset that though and I'll only walk for exercise or necessity.
