If you have a burger flipper making $10 an hour, and something slightly more skilled, lets say, a hairdresser or some other low level artisan making 12$ an hour, then you increase the minimum wage to $12 an hour, all you've done is lower the hairdresser's wage comparatively, since all the prices of everything will increase in the area. So the burger flipper isn't making any more money in real terms, because everything went up in price, and the hairdresser needs to be given a wage increase to account for the fact that they are more skilled than a burger flipper. And then this goes up the chain, as someone who made $14 an hour before the minimum wage law is mad because they're making the same as a hairdresser now, when they were previously making $2 an hour more than them, so their wage gets increased to $16 an hour, and then someone who made 16$ an hour before.... etc.
