If you run into their line, you lose. You're most deadly when you have a medium size tail, so you can shark the big guys by swinging in front of them. Too small and you have to make the cut extremely close, requires a lot of skill (and luck, due to lag) and too big means you're very slow, good at roping in smaller snakes but good luck cutting anyone off, plus you're a big target to the medium guys.
I really like the strategy of it. Gets boring once you get to the top though and it's just avoiding people and roping in newbies.

You spawn in a random area on one of the outer rings in most cases. You see those balls running around? Any of those can turn into a player if there's nobody REALLY close.
Just like in Agar, if there's a globule of cell nobody ate, it can turn into a player if they are left unattended, except in Agar, players can spawn anywhere if there is no ball of cell mass. In Slither, you can only spawn on moving balls, but they're always there, so no big deal.
