Fixed FOV

No demo's / replays

No SDK

Visual clutter

Positional sound is terrible

No movement mechanics whatsoever

Over the top recoil

Terrible mouse input

Footsteps next to impossible to hear

No forceskins

Fixed max movement speed

No rocket jumping / plasma climbing

I don't even mind the concept of loadouts or power weapons, I think those aspects can work.

I highly doubt they've spent any time putting analysis into what makes an arena FPS great. I doubt they've even spent time with the competitive scene of their previous games to get their input. I mean shit, it would be interested in knowing if sponge/sync ever had any input.

I get that lot of these issues can be fixed, but right now there's no way in hell I'm putting my money down on a game with a skill ceiling / mechanics this basic and with all these fundamental issues that make for a shit FPS. It really looks like id have no idea what they're doing any more despite being the grandfathers of the scene.

It's a demo you fucking moron

So, just like CSGO compared to 1.6/source.

There was a nonfunctional fov slider in the Alpha's advanced video options, advanced video settings are greyed out in the Beta. There's more evidence that they'll be adding an fov slider than there is to the contrary.
This comes with a negative, though: The fov slider isn't in the game because it's built for consoles first, and since it's an engine designed to be multiplat from the beginning the PC version is just a yet to be touched up PC build of the game they've been building for consoles. There's the +set g_fov runtime command but I'm not sure if it works.
Recoil I didn't notice at all.
Visual clutter very much on par with Q3 without a high-visibility config.
>I highly doubt they've spent any time putting analysis into what makes an arena FPS great
Probably because it's incredibly unlikely they were looking to make a competitive game in the first place. If they ever try for a Quake replacement, they'll probably do it with the Quake name.
>It really looks like id have no idea what they're doing any more
Multiplayer is developed by Certain Affinity.

Right

a demo is supposed to be indicative of the final product, thats its sole purpose.

Nobody's allowed access to the console during Beta because of what happened in the Alpha.

The FOV was fucking terrible, but overall I think it's alright. Just need more weapons and maps, and options for PC users.

But what the fuck do I know I never played the multiplayer for any of the DOOM/Quake games.

Ledge climbing and double jumping.

Visual clutter, bad FOV, yes.
Recoil, positional sound and bad mouse input, haven't recognised.

Forceskins and footsteps are getting a bit nitpicky, nudoom clearly isn't about dueling or anything, it's just a fun dudebro game that feels like goodhalo.

I'm in it for the singleplayer, but my experience in the alpha/beta multiplayer has been positive.

>>

By today's standards doom 1/2 multiplayer has some issues with balance, most weapons are oneshot kill.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jQbkE09nIc
Quake World was fast, and i mean FAST, and also lightning gun was too strong.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8-5HrWStSQ
I don't know much about quake 2 but quake 3 is considerably slower, with weapons having long time to kill. Most balanced game out of all of the previous ones.
Quake 4 was faster than quake 3 but died because of id tech 4 performance on most computers back then i think.
>>
Played the recent beta for about 5 hours now, don't really have a biased opinion. AMA if you feel like it.
>>
>>332787669
Oh, yeah I get you now. But it hasn't impacted my performance in the least or made me miss. Have you tested to see if it's just some weird, jolted lag from having to re-load the offscreen textures and shit? If it doesn't do it on a lower graphics setting, maybe it's not a mouse problem.
>>
>>332787684
Is it fun
>>
>>332787921
Straight from my heart, it's the most fun I've had in a casual multiplayer shooter for a long while. There's nothing similar to it on PC right now as far as I'm aware.

Faster and more vertical version of Halo.
>>
>>332787684

Are you sure about either of these points? It doesn't look faster than Halo and Halo has had some really vertical maps.

I know. But I never was the big fan of arena shooters. I did like to play Duke Nukem 3D multiplayer though.

It's also unfinished and hasn't built a community where you can get a solid match at most hours, especially if you're outside of the USA.

Why would they? Arena shooters don't make the big bucks, especially not on consoles.
>>

>Make a risky investment by making a game like hasn't been made in a long time with gameplay that went out of style in most/all mainstream shooters

Geez, I wonder which pitch the investors preferred.

How the FUCK would you make a fast paced arena shooter for consoles?
>>
>>332789269
Simple, I wouldn't. Fast paced arena shooters aren't meant for console.

Or make it with the "mouseboard hardware addon", which is just keyboard+mouse with one cable to go into the controller port. I mean, you could play the old Guitar Heroes with your controller, but that's not really the way to go.
>>
>>332789269
visible heathbar and lockon.

>>332789523
Boring. Why not watch a movie instead if the game is going to do everything for you?
>>
>>332789808
The played already chose for this when they went to play an arena shooter on console instead of PC.
>>
>>332787676
qw had strong armours, very free movement, and strong armours. the good weapons (rocket, shaft, grenade launcher to an extent) were strong on purpose and the armours scaled exponentially in efficacy. that made for the best teamplay game with the way control worked in this. 1on1 in it didnt really take advantage of it the same way
q3 weak weapons, weak items and slower movement led to a more 'tactical' pace in 1on1 but was much worse when it came to tdm where mg cessing and less momentum for control gave it much less depth.
q2 was a mess because it had strong armours, weaker weapons, and by far the clunkiest movement. q4 was a half-finished q3 on release and ran like shit, doa.
>>
>play for 6 hours yesterday
>wake up today
>feel like playing it again

I think I'm having fun, guys.
Then again I spent the entire duration of the Guild Wars 2 beta playing and didn't even play that to level cap on release.
>>
>>332789808
you still have to time evade, take cover, control map resource...
>>
>>332790628
I don't know why people complain about footsteps, first doom and quake had none and people still managed to play duels.
Over relience on sound is not always good, sometimes you need to predict where the opponent might be. Which sometimes leads to hackusations and "I USED SHIFT" in games like counter-strike.

Are the sounds missing? That would be okay for the reason you described. But he said "positional" which makes me think he meant there are sounds but you can't tell how far away. And that is a problem.
