Dark souls 1 matchmaking was terrible and there's a reason why you need a third party launcher to even see any pvp. Putting in a level restriction lead to two things; ganking or the same 6 build being used ad infinitum.

Because you can't stop the flow of souls like you could halt leveling, unless you waste a ring slot which would be put to better use with a utility ring.

SM gets high enough, the pool of players you can invade or summon / get summoned by gets slimmer and slimmer until you finally have a hard time finding anyone.

SM was implemented to stop twinking, which it did, but at the cost of skewing player pools worse than level brackets did, because like previously stated, you can't totally stop soul gain without that shitty ring.

That simply isn't true because Soul Memory takes into account souls that aren't retrieved when you die. Not only that but what if some poor bastard did nothing but spend all his souls on items and upgrading weapons he later finds out are shitty? More souls added to his SM that don't actually improve his character at all.

Actually all it does is keep them in the same SM bracket as other people. Whether or not those people are of similar skill level (and more than likely are worse than them as they may have misspent some points or simply died and had them go down the drain).

Soul memory or no, there's a point where leveling is pointless regardless of whatever the community meta is.

The problem is after the first month or so after the game comes out you have less and less people playing. Sure you can go to fight club locations, but normal invading and summoning can start becoming a bitch especially in areas after midgame. In DS if I wanted to invade or be summoned in a certain area. I looked up the average level of the area and made my build. With SM in DS2 I had to carefully plan a build down to the route and minimum souls so that I could stay in the SM range I wanted until I am eventually forced out.

The SM brackets at higher levels get so wide that wasted souls literally don't matter. At 3M SM the matchmaking bracket is anywhere between 2M and 5M. Se even if you're fucktarded enough to somehow waste a million souls on your way to SL200 you're still going to be in the exact same matchmaking bracket as would have been if you didn't die a single time.

It solved twinks. Hell, DaS2 in general was a huge improvement balance wise due to making pyromancy scale and removing non-scaling upgrade paths that allowed putting all your levels into health and stamina while still dealing end-game tier damage.

Like everyone else in the thread, this is just my personal experience but I never experienced getting locked out of online due to raising my SM too high even with many fuck ups and lost souls. DaS2 has plenty of problems regarding Blue covenant mechanics (hard time finding sinners and no one uses the scrub covenant for defensive invaders), but it's really easy to find people to play with in co-op or any other PvP covenant.

There was a glitch in my game where the cunt pristes that was suppose to turn the gears to let me go to Huntsman's Copse nvever showed up and as a result i couldn't go to bowsers lava castle so i had to grind souls to complet the game.

I require to be invaded at least 5 times an area and at least one area that is MANDATORY to go through to be protected by its own dedicated fuck you force. In DS1 that happened. In ALL of DS2 I was invaded once. Just once. To get my online jolly's I was forced to sit around doing nothing as a bell fag or a rat fag. I dont want to be the invader and I fucking hate fighting in the same area over and over.

Since I got what I want from DS1 and not DS2 I am forced to blame all the changes in DS2 from DS1 soul memory is one of them.

Is there anything more pathetic than twinks trying to act tough? In DaS1 all of you just looked up a strategy guide on how to break the game in the easiest possible way and how to find the well hidden PvP covenants while staying low level. Then after you grinded enough for max pyromancy flame and lightning / fire / chaos weapons you go one shot low level players in Undead Parish without running the risk of getting invaded by other twinks yourself since you already cleared the area boss in your own world.

There's almost zero challenge involved, and the little challenge there is comes from the single player portion of the game. You're just bitches crying about losing their humongous handicap.

I got invaded ONCE on my first playthrough. ONCE.

Its a fucking shitty system. It stops people playing against each other properly because if you spend too much time killing shit, you cant get invaded properly.

It totally kills low level invasions. Its beyond shit.
