I'd say amateur is a better way to describe it than bad.
It has all the hallmarks of something made by a guy with more ideas than talent or budget. The characters are inconsistent, the pacing is terrible, the art is bad, all the backgrounds are stock photos, it has like 4 music tracks that play constantly, and way too many scenes are repeated route to route.

That can't happen though because you have to tech first to get out of a combo in the air if they drop it, and since to air tech you have to press any button while holding a direction, you may as well try to reduce.
Burst baits are in melty blood too since most people will try to burst out of a combo if they're in max.

Burst baiting happens plenty in JP tournaments for the game. Also, the kind of people who go for arc drive during max all the time suck. It's better spending that meter for EX combos since it'll give more damage and you'll end up at 200 meter once max is gone instead of 100 meter from using an arc drive.

You're just playing with baddies then. Look at any tournament. Arc drives are used very rarely. I'm bad at Melty and I use heat to mainly regain health, not arc drives.

I loved Tsukihime and its sequel Kagetsu Tohya. F/SN was also pretty good outside of the first route, and F/HA was good because I liked the characters that returned though it was still really dumb in general. I'd say if you have time to burn, you should read them if you're curious. Tsukihime manga is an alright if you want a taste, but I'd personally recommend reading the VN first.
