Fair enough. You can speed up combat now, but only combat. Walking speed as ofnow can only be increased with tabi boots. That actions like hacking takes long is because the game has a genuine stealth system and so these actions must involve some risk.

Running through BGEE again to get a save together for this. Kensai with legitly rolled 18s in everything but Cha, dualing to Mage at level 9. Sticking with the canon party and blowing through everything as fast as possible. I know the first game so well I don't even need to read most of the text. I remember everything word for word until the actual Baldur's Gate segment which I only ever played through to completion twice I think.
Hope SoD is good. Honestly wasn't really a fan of the NPC and story editions they made at least to BG1EE. Absolutely despised Neera in particular. Hope the writing has improved for this.

Then the expansion proper starts and you can go to various disctricts of Baldur's Gate and recruit some of the BG1 companions which stayed in the city. Rest you meet later on in the expansion at various points.
And no, you aren't limited to a specific party since you can form your own by recruting the ones you want obviously. You just don't have acccess to ALL of them at once.

You can import any save but your party at the start will depend on the party you have in the save you imported.
