What's the shittiest JRPG you've ever played in your life?
Legend of Dragoon beats even Skies of Random Encounters in shittiness.
It's like someone tried to make a japanese version of mystic knights of tir na nog and it ended up exactly as bad as it sounded.
>>332704209
You take your shit opinion right back and cram it back into your whore mouth.
I admit I only played it on GameCube, and even then I found the random encounter rate fairly ridiculous, but EVERYTHING else about that game was glorious vidya magic.
>>332706863
It was made by Sega's worst division which had little/no experience making JRPGs, it was kinda inevitable that it would suck.
>>332706990
I thought it was pretty good, way better than FF8
>>332704209
Final Fantasy the series
>>332706990
It must be rough having awful taste in JRPGs.
Skies of Arcadia is one of the only games I've ever played that truly captured the idea of a lighthearted adventure without being saccharine garbage bereft of tension.
The encounter rate was too high, but everything else from the characters, to the writing, to the battle system was fucking great.
>>332704209
You must play some amazing JRPGs if you think Skies of Arcadia is shit.
>>332707098
Everything is better than FF8

That's thanks to when it came out, the really cringey lolihero waifu shit didn't start until a bit later.

Gotta be something from level 5. Dark cloud, shit. Rogue galaxy, shit. Ni no kuni? Utter shovelware only carried by anime faggots.
To this day, I'm clueless on how such a shitty company is still going. If an entire company doesnt count, then SMT Strange Journey. Never played such a dry, boring game thats only good for kicking your ass with one hit spells and making you wandering low budget shitty dungeons for hours. Fuck first person rpgs

FFXIII
Like what fuck was that shit? Im not a bandwagon hater either, I've been a longtime FF ultra fan and have beaten I, III, IV, V VI, VII, IX, X, X-2 and played a good while of XIV.
FFXIII easily deserves worst jrpg of all time.

I honestly don't see how people like it.
I played til disc two and just couldn't go on. None of the characters were particularly interesting, the combat was slow and simple, and random encounters had no reason to exist when the only time you'd actually level was when you'd kill a boss due to giving random monsters pitiful exp rates.
Suikoden tierkries
Everytime i get in a battle on Skies i have to turn the games speed up to like 5x the battles are atrociously slow, but the games fucking great beside the slow ass battles.

Not really. It's pretty boring and linear, but nothing is inherently broken about it.

I heard part of that game centered around the female characters talking about marriages and true love like a flock of gossipy hens. Is that true?
Summoner and quest 64 are pretty bad. My personal least favourites are unlimited saga and enchanted arms. I spent a lot of money on both at time of release and was let down after expecting a comfy 30-40 hour game.
>>332708445
there's a difference between having a different and just blatantly being underage/baiting.

The combat was fucking great, though. And the cutscenes were so bad that at least you could laugh at them.

It was a shame because on paper Agarest is my dream game.
Holy shit did its execution botch that dream.
>>332710968

Try enchanted arms and infinite undiscovery before you judge eternal sonata. At least ES had a fairly interesting combat system and Chopin's music holding it up.

I remember playing this jrpg on the PS1 where you go into a well for the first dungeon. It was hard as fuck and I don't remember enjoying it as a kid. Your weapons also had durabillity.

IU wasn't bad, just mediocre. I just couldn't stand the characters of ES. The concept was cool: Chopin trippin balls in his dream. But instead we got a bunch of little kids runnin around being little faggot kids the whole time.
>>332710968
>Played the first PS3 Ar Tonelico? It would probably be on my list of worst jrpgs. Right alon with Eternal Sonata.
A friend of mine said he played 3 as his first in the series, and he didn't like it at all. He complained about the linearity of dungeons and all that.
I'm in the middle of the first game and I actually like it. Definitely a flawed gem if I had to describe it. There are things I like about it but game play wise it's not terrific. Great soundtrack. Arguably great characters and story. Weak gameplay that's fortunately easy so you can advance through it at a decent pace. I might go as far as to say it would be a better visual novel.
>>332711348
Don't remember, but there is dual audio
Its not much better though
>>332704209
You are a god awful troll, you know that? I don't think its actually possible to dislike Skies of Arcadia.
>>332711348
You can change it to Jap in the PS3 version, but without terrible English VA you rob yourself of the few reasons to play the game since the combat is shit and the environments are empty
My main gripe are constant uninteresting battles. A lot of the shit posted so far does deter me from playing them over again. I just don't feel like grinding through them. And I don't mean leveling up beyond whatever area I'm in, and hunting down items/side quests, but going through each every battle pressing one button gets really monotonous at times. I guess I do like the run away feature if they have it or some way to skip a labyrinth of constant encounters. I'm cool with going through the motions once I get to new area, but if it's rinse and repeat without any change then my overall appreciation drops.
Chrono Cross
Good music, decent art style, awful everything else
>>332710025
But the battle system was pretty great anon. I wish other games had something similar

>Universe implodes as party escapes
>"WAH, IT'S ALL MY FAULT!!!"
>Find out the source of whatever is killing the universe is because of some cosmic "we don't want civilization becoming TOO advanced" horror
>Green haired faggot comes back as cosmic horror
>"I literally did not know that girl's name"
>Kill green haired faggot
>"We should NEVER share and exchange technology EVER because bad things will happen!"
>Forgets that his own stupidity is what destroyed the alternate Earth
>The end
Maybe it's because I hadn't played the previous games (I thought this was a reboot or something), but JESUS CHRIST the MC was retarded, the green haired faggot was retarded, the reason for not sharing technology was retarded, the game just spewed pure retard at it's latter half/final third.
None of you guys have experienced TRUE HELL
>>332710814
>I heard part of that game centered around the female characters talking about marriages and true love like a flock of gossipy hens. Is that true?
yes. Look up footage of the game, you are a 2d anime character running around a 3D plane.
The sidequests are just the same shit with the same NPCs over and over (because you keep on going back in time to stop the people fucking up your wedding only to find out that you caused the event that caused them to attack your wedding)
The game made me physically ill.

>>332709504
I lost interest in Ar Tonelico pretty fast myself.
I didn't get far enough to really see where they went with the combat, but basically the jist of the game is that you play dating sims with the girls and these girls are the main component of the battle system. Their power is based on how well you do with them in the dating sim. I just didn't want to play a dating sim. Maybe I'll come back to it someday.
Gust is real hit or miss with their games, they all have a gimmick. Ar Tonelico's gimmick is the dating sim side-game. Probably the most regular Gust RPG game is Atelier Iris. It's basically a SUPER EASY generic rpg game, there's basically no grinding in the game, you become overleveled no matter what. You'll get a level up every other fight. It has the alchemy stuff, but you can just breeze through the game.
Now, my favorite Gust game, is Mana Khemia. It has the best combat and while it plays a lot like Atelier Rorona in the fact you have a time-system and must finish alchemy-based missions within the allotted time it's just done so well because of the amazing battle system. Atelier Rorona sucks because it's basically the same thing, but the combat in Rorona is really plain like Atelier Iris.
TL;DR: the only good Gust game is Mana Khemia. The rest are pretty trash.
>>332713584
General rule of thumb is to play all first-party Sega games on their original platform, unless they're actual remakes (Sonic CD, Jet Set Radio) because first-party development meant they could get the most out of their hardware while the ports are usually pretty lazy with little if any improvement.

Is there a big difference overall?

>TL;DR: the only good Gust game is Mana Khemia.
Ar Tonelico is the first Gust game I've tried , and as I said, I'm liking it so far. Enough to make me want to try other Gust titles. And as it happens, I downloaded Mana Khemia for my emulator at about the same time but have yet to touch it.Does it have a good soundtrack?
>>332713584
GameCube version, hands down. The DC version has a fucking insane encounter rate that they toned down in the GameCube version.
Also, IIRC, they added a quest in the GameCube version that was only originally available online on a service that died when Sega stopped making DCs.
>>332714095
More content, random battles are tweaked a little, so they don't happen so often.
>>332710795
I haven't played SO4 but I played through 1 and 2 on the PSP.

Toss up between Tales of Vesperia, Hyper Dimension Neptunia, and Eternal Sonata.
