Toady makes fucking procedurally generated shitfest that is just an endless crafting simulator. Core gameplay is twofold:
designating shit to do and piles to pile upon
and crafting, crafting and crafting
there is nothing to master apart from endless crafting options. core gameplay is as simplistic as it gets and the game itself relies on external programs (therapist) to work amicably.

You should try the Mystery Dungeon games. They're very...different from anything else Pokemon puts out, and I think they're worth looking into.
I'll give Yume Nikki a second chance though. I didn't particularly like it when I tried it a while back but maybe I'll appreciate it more now.

Drakengard/Nier is GOAT science-fiction as far as video games go. Hell, Nier is better thought out and executed than most movies too. And what's your beef with Toady? Outside of DF discussions he's never brought up.
I agree on Molyneux though, his work is pretty consistently some amazingly inspired stuff. Even though it's a shadow of what was promised I think that Fable: The Lost Chapters was a masterpiece. Not to mention Dungeon Keeper, Populus and all the rest. Fuck, thinking back on Fable, it's probably some of the most fun I've ever had with a video game.
