Yeah, I don't know what they're thinking. The series was successful as far as I know, and unique too. Maybe they just ran out of ideas, I'll admit the transformation gimmick did seem a bit of a reach. Maybe it also doesn't appeal to modern audiences either. I mean it is a rather cutesy, kind of kiddy, highly japanese influenced platformer about catching monkeys. It might be too niche in our modern gaming landscape.

Well I wouldn't say we're oversaturated with dark, cinematic games right now. The last trend I noticed was relatively colourful, objective based multiplayer games like Overwatch, Rainbow Six Siege etc. but I think that for the few people who want a solid, colourful platformer every now and then, Mario games are generally released just often enough to satisfy people. We're not really in a platforming age right now. Maybe after Yooka Laylee hits, if it's successful, people will try to use it's success and we'll see a surplus for a while.

The remake on the PSP plays how you probably want it to but let me tell you, you are in the minority. Ape Escape was the first game specifically designed for the Dual Analogs and that's how the game is meant to be played. And that's how most people prefer it.
