The Sharpshooter perk's coming out in the very near future, at which point it'll have more perks than KF1 ever had. They'll be releasing a new patch within the next couple weeks, that will add the SS' weapons as off-perk weapons, the new Versus mode, and a brand new map. The actual implementation of SS will follow soon after.

The Gunslinger perk's been a damn fine SS-replacement so far, though.

As an old fan of KF (started with the pre-release demo of the 2005 original mod), and as someone who picked up KF2 only last december, it's been great fun. Obviously you quickly eat through the 8 main maps we got so far, but even that's more than what KF1 started with, and we already got some custom maps rotating on servers.

My only two remaining wishes would be TWI finally adding a proper in-game server setup menu (Listen servers already confirmed), and not taking 5 years to release Objective mode.

Since 2013 Tripwire has been out-sourcing work on their games to Anti-Matter games, the team who made Rising Storm. All updates to KF and RO2 have either been done by Anti-Matter.

They're also involved in the development of KF2.

Demo wasn't added almost a year after release.
Same thing with the Husk, AK and Katana.
Tier-3 weapons were added even more later than that, and it wasn't until 2011 that FB finally got its second actual perk-weapon, the MAC.

Yeah, on Normal mode, maybe.
KF2's "Normal" pretty much equals KF1's "Hard", which is why all Perks start with their tier-1 weapons right off the bat. Not to mention the whole behavior of enemies change and they get more aggressive on higher modes.

Honestly it's a pretty decent game for 30 bucks now. After the next update it's easily worth it since they're adding in two new modes, an objective mode and a vs mode with playable zeds. Not to mention they're patching in the code necessary to do on the fly balance tweaking (previously it required a full deployment so they bundled it with major content updates slowing down the releases).

All that aside there's enough content as it currently stands to get your moneys worth out of the game.

Also I learned that the game becomes a lot more entertaining when you start playing on custom maps; Infernal Realm/DevaStation top fuckin tier. Im actually having fun in this game again.

I always see that claim being used in these threads, but it was my understanding (which may be wrong) that December was TW's estimate of the "minimum" time it would take for the game to be ready to come out of EA.

If that were the case, it would still be a stupid estimate for them to give, but not as big a deal as people on /v/ try to make it out, like TW promised people it was gonna be Dec.

Though maybe they did, which is why I'm asking.

IIRC in the original steam listing for the KF2 EA they listed all sorts of shit like being fully released in 2015 with 10 perks several game modes etc. They're releasing content but at an incredibly slow rate and their communication is absolutely horrible. At one people people were complaining so badly on the forums about their broken EA promises the community support guy Yoshiro essentially said "fuck off you got exactly what you paid for when you bought into EA and we (tripwire) have zero obligation to even finish the game.

There was a TW employee who (much more politely than that) said that naming content updates "free updates" was appropriate even for those who bought EA, but it wasn't Yoshiro and it wasn't what you said.

Unless you can show me. Maybe that did happen and I somehow am only hearing of that after several big KF2 threads on /v/ and reading the forums almost daily and never hearing about it. But I somehow doubt it, people would have thrown a shitfit prior to your post.

Anyway, yeah, as far as I know, the 10 perks and multiple game modes are still in the cards. My inquiry is about TW's specification of release date. The more I think about it, the more skeptical I grow that TW specified Dec 2015 as a guaranteed date to have 10 perks and more game modes out, because that would be insane, even if TW were getting updates done at a more reasonable rate.

I feel like I'm shilling for TW here but goddamn, I've seen /v/ spread so much misinformation about KF2 it's getting to me.

KF2 is pretty OKish. It's got a fair number of maps and once the sharp is in all the original perks. There's just something about it that isn't as interesting as the first one though. I'll play a few games every once in a while but it just feels kind of dead inside. I don't know. Like a really cute girl who you got on with really well 5 years ago but now she's just dull as hell to be around.

Because Killing Floor 1 had a very VERY small number of developers, so it was somewhat justified for a lack of content.

And I play tons of tacticle games like arma, squad, rainbow six old and new, and red orchestra. I dont complain about camping, but I complain in vermintide when people fag it up as much as humanly possibly and exploit everything any anything they can. Or in left 4 dead 1 where every faggot thought it was 100% necessary every single game for all survivors to camp in a corner on top of each other during big waves.

The game only improves on the original in one regard, which is mainly graphics. The only reason i see to buy kf2, is if you played for the original for HUNDREDS of hours.

Killing Floor 2's currently caters to a very casual audience. The skill ceiling of the original is gone, and mechanics like grenade chaining in the original, which added depth, are removed in KF2 for some strange reason. The one thing i can think of, which objectively improves gameplay, in killing floor 2 is the hitboxes. The original game had god awful hitboxes, thankfully this game improves this signifcantly.
The Versus mode which they are going to add soon also proves how they are catering to casuals. They still have 3 perks to add, their respective weapons, and start balancing this game. Instead, they're producing a mode that no one has asked for, and putting promised content on hold in place of it. It was fine when it was just a "side project" for the workshop, but this mode is now taking up development time/testing/balancing in place of content that WE WANT and were promised.

There's also the early access model, which is stupid. To put it simple, this is how they treat it.
If the update released is buggy, they're defended by people who say "it's early access". If it takes ages for an update they say "this is a polished early access".
It's an early access game... but it's not.

To put it simple: Buy KF1, it is much better than KF2. KF2 is only good for casual playing, which KF1 still does well.

People stay in one place because of zed teleporting. This game is in a limbo of where it *punishes* camping by destroying light sources and visibility. and walking around the map is punished because of zeds teleporting everywhere instead of following you.

Also worth mentioning, camping is harder than kiting in this game. If you have a class with movement speed(slinger, med, berserker) then you can outrun anything that poses a threat. You can literally beat the hardest difficulty solo by running mindlessly with a lvl25 gunslinger, and missing 75% of your headshots.
