Doomguy's original armour still had that plastic look to it anyway. Only the trousers were made of cloth while the lower legs had grey armour on them. Also, I'm quite sure Doomguy's sprite have no abs showing meaning the only exposed part of Doomguy is his arms.
Maybe Doomguy's armour will break up during the campaign, maybe he RIP AND TEAR demons and lose arm armour.

that would be an awesome damage system, progressively seeing armor chip off during fights and regenerate on armor and health pickup. would be a one up from doomguy's face sprite definitely and work really well in multiplayer a-la deathcalls.

Since Doomguy's armour is damanged in trailers and pictures with the live-action showing progressive damage, I'm convinced that this is what is going to happen to Doomguy and he most likely show his abs, lose the arm armour and have the paint burned off his helmet leaving him with the classic silver colour.
Also people are forgeting that pro-communities and competitive play have always reamined small in video games and that Doom was not released with mod support at start. Let the casual players play short-term, we can wait long-term and get what we want later.
Until then, private matches should suffice I hope.

From what i understood so far, this time doomguy wears some kind of powerarmor or exoskeleton.
Besides being a fun shooter i still hope the game will have some kind of audiologs/stuff to read. I really enjoy this stuff since system shock/deus ex. I think it helps with creating illusion that there is something going on outside game levels.
