I love fighting games that are very japanese in their theme. For my ps2 I played the shit out of Red Ninja: End of Honor, for my PC I've playing a load of (among others) Shadow Warrior. I realize these aren't realistic depictions of Japanese culture and society, but I still want to play fighting games with ninjas and katanas, and stuff. Gritty games. Inspired by japanese folklore. Recommend some, please.

Checked out most of those, I left all my older consoles behind when I moved out of my parents house. Right now I've got a PC and a 3DS, Tenchu looks great but I can't seem to find any game like it for the PC with one google search.

Strider and Yaiba look great, Strider doesn't seem to be released on anything emulator-able. Mark of the ninja has too much of the flash game feel to me.

4 actually is pretty silly in general. Took the goofier aspects of previous games and amplified it while still trying to hold onto the general feeling and shit of the older games.
I think playing as Zer0 in Borderlands 2 is pretty good ninja fun, as well. Borderlands isn't very gritty or anything, but it's still a ninja.
Shinobido is a must play, one of my top 5 vidya.
