Would a fighting game do better if there was a huge fan base for its lore like Touhou or FNAF or Undertale?
>>
What do you mean by "do better"? Do you mean "sell better"? Because if you did, why not just say that? Do you mean something else too?

Do you seriously want the FNAF/Undertale fanbase on your favourite fighting game?

No. Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and Killer Instinct are almost 25-30 years old franchises. Whatever lore they have either requires playing old games, reading old manuals or other such digging.

Besides, the games don't need to reach that crowd. Undertale fags are the modern Sonic fanbase with a dash of Homestuck, full of self inserts, recolors and existentialist drivel by teenagers who think they have the answers to all life's problems. FNAF on the other hand is littered with furries, Barneyfags and other such extra chromosome wielders we don't need.

Gameplay and learning curve is what makes fighters or fighting-like games enticing. Anyone can play Smash Bros. ANYONE. All the lore is from other games most of its fans don't play or got into because of Smash and yet there's a fanbase that makes up their own headcanon about shit that happens in Smash as though it's one big sitcom of selected Nintendo characters being LOLRANDUMB. None of that shit is official but fangirls and 27 year old manchildren eat that shit up and even gone as far as to push it as canon and despite all this Wii U hasn't spiked in sales.

So to answer your question, no. Your reasoning is flawed.

why isn't there a KLK fighting game yet?

>would more people like this genre if more people liked this genre?

Gee, I dunno, boss.

Well, SG tried hard to create an interesting universe, and they have quite a bit of fans thanks to that but apart from that people don't actually play it. It doesn't have much of a competitive scene, not offline and even online is running thin on players.

Sooo... kinda...? Depends on what you feel constitutes "doing better". At the end of the day, the fighting game crowd isn't really the kind of crowd who gives a fuck about storylines.
