When you get to Dante. Though the second part is essentially the same thing as the first. Only with our Lord and Savior Dante.
Stop focusing on the story and the levels design, and try to learn and understand the combat mechanics and the game will get a lot better

I felt the same way when I first started playing, also expecting a Ninja Gaiden experience. Once you unlock most of the abilities and play on the harder difficulties you'll eventually get the rhythm and enjoy it.
If you don't have the patience it's fine. It's very different from Ninja Gaiden.
