This game was so fucking hard when i was a kid
Commander Keen

> R.I.P Jools
James Pond
One of the earliest games I remember playing as a kid, still love it
>>332575807
Love TFTD, but the game is basically a reskin of UFO Defense. Don't know why people never complained about it back then, if a dev tried doing this nowadays people would rip him a new one.

Princess Maker 2

Anvil of Dawn, Master of Magic, Master of Orion 1 and 2, Might and Magic 3, 4 and 5, X-Com, King's Bounty, Battle Bugs, Albion
There's a whole lot of amazing games in the DOS library, so I'm sure I've missed out on some of them.
Liero split-screen on that old primitive keyboard with no n-key rollover.
Sorry bro, I played only a NES emulators because my pc had like 32mb ram.

God damnit. My friend and I were first introduced to the element of n-key rollover by this game after my parents upgraded our pc back in 98.
Good thing my friend had an older keyboard and he brought it over every time.

Winner, webm is up there too. I love both.
does anyone remember a game where there was a muscular man on the title cover with ounly black and blue covers? that's literally the only memory I have of it
>>332572227
The only DOS game I played was Dangerous Dave
SS1 > SS2
>>332577742
I think ever since the enhanced edition came out people are starting to realize just how much better System Shock 1 is and rightfully so.
imho, it requires REAL skill to make a game aesthetically appealing with such a minimal number of pixels, polygons and colors. Kudos to these devs.
Life or death 1 and 2
Why didn't they make other good surgeey games other than those and the trauma center saga....

Man, I wish the OpenDune2 project didn't die.

I just played them both back to back, and it really surprised me how much I enjoyed SS1, and how disappointing SS2 was. While SS2 had some cool moments like the SHODAN reveal and The Many as a whole, SS1 is just a better designed game. The combat is better, the progression is better, and SHODAN is fucking sweet. I thought 2 was going to be cooler, but the shitty combat really ruined the experience.

Agreed. For me it was the redundant RPG mechanics in 2 that really brought it down. Considering it's the same team that did the Ultima Underworld games you'd think the RPG side would be great, but nah.
>Souce port never
This shit right here

geez i've been saying this for years
>>332581032
was about to post this
i'd say Descent 2 isn't just the best dos game but the best game period
>>332581308
BloodCm is alright, but something about it to me feels off.
>>332581308
there is blood CM and the doom conversion but they just aren't the same
but while i'm on build engine stuff there is a brand new game which will be a prequel to interceptor/3drealms's bombshell game
honestly i don't understand why people don't just licence the engine if they want to make an "oldschool" shooter rather than trying to imitate them in unity or whatever

I didn't have the good DOS games. I only had this one compilation disc that had like 251 DOS games on it, most of them being demos and trials.
Commander Keen, Bio Menace, Duke Nukem, Math Rescue, Word Rescue, Alien Carnage, Jetpack Christmas, Skunny: Save Our Pizzas, Hugo's House of Horrors, Nitemare 3D, Ken's Labyrinth, Billy the Kid, Captain Comic, Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure, Amy the Dog, Hocus Pocus, Monster Bash, Overkill, Arcade Volleyball, Avoid the Noid, Animal Quest
that's all I remember. Some of those were really bad in hindsight but games like Monster Bash, Commander Keen, Duke Nukem and Alien Carnage were really good for the time.

Apogee was a great dev
>>332580052

Why were DOS games so great?
MS DOS had great music.
Especially those heavy on slap bass.
blues brothers
jazz jackrabbit
Alladin
Jungle Strike
sensible soccer '94
Nico & Nico 2
winwar.exe
my first games..
>>332581032
No mention of the best DOS rpg?
>>332582675
This game was so nice for so many reasons.
Master of Magic is fucking aces. I still play it from time to time.
If you haven't played it, it's a 4x game where you play a wizard leading one of a dozen fantasy races. You learn spells, manage diplomatic relations, build cities, buildings, and units, and hire heroes.
Grab it. It's free.
