Yeah I'm ok with what you are saying regarding fascism. A lot of concepts were allegedly taken from ancient rome, failing miserably, but renaissance was another thing altogether. It was based on the recovery of a great deal of literature from the eastern part of the roman empire. It was really a more philosophical revolution. They did take a lot from romans regarding architecture, but also ancient greece so I wouldn't take the connection for granted.
That aside, I stil think no one is more entitled than anyone. People living in Rome now are mostly immigrants from the south of italy, rather than ancient romans. The culture that is the nearest to ancient romans in italy is probably the ones from the tuscany region, even though it's also the cradle of the etruscan culture. Btw renaissance was a great deal in that region so maybe you're more right than I think about that.

In any case, etruscan culture had a great impact on romans. A more greek like culture in Italy could be found in Magna Grecia, the south of Italy which still houses many temples built by greeks. They were a colony, while Rome seems to be an indipendent thing from the start.
Yes, I'm italian. I know a bit of history through architecture, which I study, and I came to realize how much intertwined cultures you can see passed our country in centuries just from it. I'm not in any way related to romans however; I'm from the north so my culture is basically a mix of germanic tribes followed by centuries of conquest by whatever power was up at some point.
