I'm more interested in the steam link. My PC and TV are in two seperate rooms and even while i drilled a hole through the wall between them for ethernet, HDMI cables won't work when they are longer than 10 meters or so i've been told.

I have a PC across the house from my living room. I ran the wires through walls on the perimeter of the house (easier to work than the inner walls) which totaled ~80 feet. I run a 100 foot HDMI and use this device to run my USB devices over 100 foot ethernet.

Don't try to use a regular USB extension cable over 18 feet, it will constantly drop connection.

Steam link has worked terribly for me and from my experience I would not recommend it. There are tons of latency issues and a lot of games frame rate drops.

Yep, it can simulate either an Xbox gamepad, or a keyboard and mouse. It requires you to think about the configuration though and there are some things that make a lot of sense with the Steam gamepad that wouldn't with a normal controller. For instance, with the Steam gamepad it makes sense to bind common actions to the touchpad click and the grip and put the less used actions on the buttons which is kind of the reverse of an xbox pad where the stick click is awkward.
