If you're playing golden and on the easier difficulties it might seem simple to you. They nerfed that dungeon (and the next one) pretty significantly.
Even then it depends on how fast you were able to complete it. The social aspects of the game assume you're able to beat each dungeon in the 1 day....3 days tops. So depending on how slow you took it, it may seem really easy now.
The plot picks up in a big way once you hit summer.

I'm playing Golden and I'm playing on Hard difficulty and it still seemed very easy. I spent 3 days going through the dungeon, one day passing the Knight dude and getting to Yukiko's floor, another day for grinding and then 3rd day beating Yukiko. Maybe I was a bit too excessive on the grinding, I don't know.

The only "nerfs" were giving Shadow Yukiko and the minions during the Shadow Kanji fight weaknesses. Every other boss is the same.
Overall the gameplay improvements were all positive and aside from Marie feeling forced at times the new content meshes well and adds to the game in a good way.
It is much easier to break if you know what you're doing though. Rise's last persona in particular can trivialize some late game boss fights...and the skill card/shuffle time systems can allow you to make a single "Uber persona" again like was possible in 3.

I can't say much about difficulty in Golden. So long as you understand strengths and weaknesses the game rarely presents a challenging fight. You're not terribly far into the game and the plot will pick up, but it's up to you if you wanna continue.

Just play Vanilla P4 on a PS2 emulator. It's an absolutely fantastic game and very little of the added content to Golden was worth much.
Hell, in Chie's case it made the game much worse, both because she gained a far worse VA and because they had nothing to do with her character arc so all her social/romance options just became "I'm so useless and pathetic, why do you like a girl like me?"

So here's a question, P4 set a weird standard. It had more hijinks and lighthearted moments then the rest of the series. (Correct me if I'm wrong, I only played p1-2 vanilla 3 and vanilla 4, so I really can't say much for the rest of SMT)
Does that set a dangerous precedent for the next games? P3 didn't get nearly the reception that p4 got, and if that is attributed to the atmosphere, wouldn't a return to style with a dark overtone be just as damaging as continuing the p4 trend?
I guess what I'm asking is, would you be angry if we get a game similar to the first three games in tone, or would you want happy with another p4 friendship simulator? And as a follow up, how would the overall community respond to the tone shift you decide?

Nigga please, only someone without a Vita would ever say this. Golden is by far the definitive version of the game. The skill inheritance alone puts it leagues ahead of vanilla. Everything else like the two dozen or so new Personas is just some sweet delicious icing on the cake.
If you don't play Golden you're missing out on THE best track off of the OST. The winter months are such a perfect ending to the game.
