Miyata's always been the least interesting character. Someone like Sendo would have made a better rival for Ippo because of how similar they were, all Miyata has is his counters and speed.

The whole point is they're opposite styles to one another. Sendo would be boring as the main rival because it's essentially two Ippos at that point.

Gen IV had a good rival. Sure, he had ADHD, but at least he was your bro backing you up and had actual skill and a competitive drive. Gen III had practically no rival, since they were never competitive and give up early on.
