Are there RPGs where status ailments are actually needed to be used? As in they're not a complete waste of time because you can just deal with the enemies too easily
In Etrian Odyssey ailments are decent against FOEs/bosses, the Hexer class that specializes in them is powerful and you can set up combos with them for certain moves like Ailing Slash and Soul Liberator. You can also get special items by killing certain enemies while they have a status effect

Any Atlus RPG for the most part.
I think a lot of NiS games too?

atlus, indeed, NiS? I don't think so
SMT is pretty good for this as are most Atlus RPGs but as a general rule no

Divinity: Original Sin.
You want them in pretty much every battle in LISA

Good when done right (like in SMT).
Ideal when they bound to damaging spells. Like burining/confusion from fire, stun from earth, poison from water spells, mute from wind, stun from lighting, freeze from ice, etc.
There is no point using status ailments that doesn't do impact damage.
Casting a -25% to enemy evasion isn't worth a turn. In fact it isn't worth a shit.

Why are statuses always so fucking useless
>Add stat on an enemy
>You kill him next turn like you would have before
>Boss
>"OH BOY IT MIGHT ACTUALLY BE USEFUL HERE"
>Status effects have no effect or "always miss" them
They're just a filler for whatever reason
Last boss of FF13. You defend while poison slowly kills the boss.

I remember in FF X most boss fights needed them, mostly to roll back boss attack countdowns etc

Final Fantasy 12
Vagrant Story. Many enemies the best tactic is to keep debuffing them because they'll waste time reapplying buffs, leaving you free time to hit them.
Atlus games.
Divinity: OS
Final Fantasy13has ridiculous poison that reks literally any boss not immune to it, including the last mission.
>Digimon: cyber slut
>get cool abilities like Panic Wisp
>doesn't work against bosses
Fucking pointless goyshit.

I always found it funny that there was weaken AND def ignore. Weaken was so fucking useless.

the way to fix this is to add strong enough enemies that you WILL need to crowd control them in some way
