5.1 and 5.2 were the best patches for WoW ever in terms of quality content. 5.1 was the best kind of filler patch. 5.2 brought good casual endgame and a top tier raid.
Then Blizz shit the bed with 5.3 and 5.4 in reaction to 5.0. It's been shit ever since and there's no way they're going back after realizing that while the "fill the bar" crap isn't popular, it's easy.
MoP was the first original thing blizz has done in like 15 years.
The higher ups (metzen etc) have just been forcing their teams to make the same shit over and over. With mop the art guys and everyone else who have just been modeling the same orcs for the past 15 years finally got to do something new and they poured themselves into it completely.

I mean it's common for eras in WoW to go from "this is when it jumped the shark" to "this was good/the peak" but it seems to have happened a bit faster than usual for MoP. Maybe it's a sign of how bad the game is now, with a massive content drought until Legion?
I liked it. But it's the expansion that took away totems so i'm salty over it.

I don't understand why Blizzard's class design is so terrible now. Most of the heroes in HotS feel good, but are poorly balanced. Why do the WoW classes feel bad and feel poorly balanced?

I didn't even know such a thing existed at the time but when I made my Pandaren RP character I gave her a country accent. I was surprised to see such a thing in the game.

Great creativity in my opinion. The races introduced were very interesting. Pandaren and Mogu lore was way better than I expected. Pandaren philosophy was attractive and the Thunder King patch was so fucking good imo. Lei Shen and his empire made half of the positive parts of the expansion alone. In addition to that, they introduced the most attractive grind system to date in Isle of Thunder/Timeless Isle. Of course the Timeless isle being the only thing to do in a year prior to WoD was retarded. However through the duration of the Lei Shen patch, the game had content to satisfy you until 5.4
All in all, Lei Shen was GOAT

Blizzard's storytelling and worldbuilding is at its best when not focused on ANCIENT EEEEVIL or the faction conflict.
And surprise surprise, when Pandaria wasn't focusing on either of those, it was a really entertaining exploration based narrative.

MoP was the best expansion WoW ever had. Only bad part was PvP, but that had already been ruined long before.
The amount of content was staggering. Tons of events, unlockable questlines, scenarios, treasures and lore unlocks that promoted exploration, treasure runs on Isle of Thunder, summoned bosses, world bosses. Farms were comfy as hell and worked with professions nicely as opposed to the garrison minigame garbage.
Zones were beautiful even if you hate the asian aesthetics.
Soundtrack was up there with Wrath for their best work.

Throne of Thunder and Siege were two of the best raids they've put out. Heart of Fear was lame but the mantids and the final fight were great, and Vaults was a nice introductory raid which set up a lot of themes for later (Siege just ran too long)
Timeless Isle is notable too. They actually got a world pvp zone right in a filler patch before an expansion, and somehow made the one that was a major expansion feature in WoD unplayably awful.

Anyone who hates MoP never really played it, they're just wrathbabies who could never come to terms with something that wasn't as dark and edgy as their soul or deathknight main.
Cata would have been good if they hadn't raped the old world. Also the general handholding and easymode leveling got kicked up to 11 and firelands and dragon soul were awful raids.
WoD I gave up a month in, haven't touched it since. Not a single good thing I can say about it other than Frostfire was pretty.

MoP revived my interest in WoW, which WoD promptly destroyed.
Cataclysm was something I was looking forward to because I love Deathwing as a character and the backstories of the dragon aspects. Unfortunately, Dragon Soul was a shitty raid reliant on DPS and it was fucking boring. The raid loot from Cata and WotLK are my favorites, though.
I have little hope for Legion.
I also am among those butthurt about the ruined blood elf faces that came with the updated textures. I actually talked to a Blizzard concept artist about it last week and he agreed that they ended up pretty horsefaced.
