It's Metroid until you reach post game where it turns into La Mulana, but the good parts, taking notes is required, following a guide isn't.
It feels like no one ever talks about this game. It's kind of simple, but I had a lot of fun with it, and hell if it didn't scratch my Metroidvania itch. It's also pretty cheap so that's also a plus.
Dust: An Elysian Tail is fine aside from the obvious furshit.

Personally I found AV to be kind of boring. The environments weren't particularly interesting, all the enemies were bullet sponges, and the music felt sort of boring too. Worst of all, Trace was a completely unremarkable character. Still, I had some fun with it.
