You might enjoy The Witness. Not as philosophical and less open-ended puzzles but you may still enjoy it.
>>
The first-person puzzle game genre isn't huge to begin with. Antichamber, the Portal games, and the Witness are all I can think of, and they're all great in their own right.

>>332453775
Undertale was great, too, but genre-defining? It was a fun romp through a pretty standard RPG with an interesting cast and a few good twists on the formula to keep it fresh.

Except it killed most games for me. The sense of investment in everything you do. The addiction and surprising immersion. The endless content. Coming back from a dungeon to be cozy in your house, set up your shop, tend to your farm. Why is it the only game of its kind?

If you're trying to argue the Undertale is the genre-defining SHMUP nothing I say can brink you back from the brink of madness.

I never understood the praise for Metro; I got bored halfway through 2033 and played SoC again.

DeS/DaS
Dragon's Dogma

I can't find enjoyment out of anything else. I need more character customization and action with weight. Capcom better pour the rest of their money into DD2 before they go bankrupt soon.

You may also think of Portal I suppose. Quantum Conundrum, Magnetic: cage closed, QUBE, Parallax, The Ball are others but not nearly as good as Talos. Quantum Conundrum is also very cool.
Though I'm definitely going to buy The witness sooner or later.

>Dragon's Dogma

Probably one of the most overrated games on /v/. I liked it when I played it on PS3 when Dark Arisen came out, but it's only above average and has pretty bland, mediocre combat. All of a sudden once it hit PC everyone started considering it amazing. I like it and hope it gets a sequel but god how casual can you get.

I think you may be wrong, it was much before than that as every DD thread was infested with pc port begging.
>>
>>332455157
Yes, and it's actually more challenging than the main game.

It's good, some puzzles are as batshit as the stars.

It's on sale right now on GMG for 3.74 yuros.

I'm not saying people didn't want it, I wanted it too because playing on 10fps fucking sucked. I'm saying that once PC casual race got their hands on it it went from being an okay arpg with neat ideas to "genre defining, soulsfags BTFO"
>>
>>332455157
Its def worth it. The difficulty is brutal compared to the original.

>All of a sudden once it hit PC everyone started considering it amazing
We had plenty of threads before the pc release was even revealed, talking about how fun it was. I was in every one of them. DD:DA is a mess but you gotta appreciate the special moments you can only experience in this game within the genre. Moments like hanging on to a flaming griffin as it crashes to the ground or traveling in pitch blackness then all of a sudden a chimera pounces into your small area of light. There's so much wrong with the game but I can't help but feel it's the beta to an amazing game.

Rebirth is substantially better now than it was (as with all egosoft games).

I agree completely, like I said I like the game and has good ideas, but it's a fucking mess and the combat is horrible. "A beta to an amazing game" is a perfect description. I just get triggered when people call it "genre defining" or compare extremely favorably to the Souls series, a series that is at this point reasonably polished and has a focused direction to it.

It could have an awesome sequel with the framework it laid out but the game itself is only pretty good.

Dwarf fortress ruined city Sims and "getting my gore fix" syndrome, nothing has surpassed the quality of df in both these regards. Eventually I'll just go "dwarf fortress can do this better" and quit
