Can somebody articulate why Unarmed/Melee combat feels wrong in F3/New Vegas? They're so similar to each other, I chase fleeing enemies around and attack too slowly (they even run in VATS), you can be much more overpowered from a range with guns/explosives/energy weapons

Unarmed is OP as fuck in New Vegas, though. It still feels pretty shitty because of horrible animations, teleporting in VATS and no advanced targeting but all combat in Fallout 3/NV is bad so might as well be unstoppable while you're at it.

Each play style is overpowered though, it's an easy game. It seems better to be OP from a range
>>
For me it feels more appropriate to use primarily guns in Fallout games. Melee weapons like the Ripper feel right though.
>>
It just gets boring as fuck after a while because of the extremely limited options and animations. Basically the Gamebryo standard.
>>
>>332441724
Melee is even easier than guns, plus you don't need to worry about ammo.

my favorite line from any game, an absolute gem. everything he said was golden

>tfw melee in 4
what the fuck
how the fuck
why the fuck
>>

How is it easier? You still have to repair expensive weapons, and you end up running at most enemies (who don't run at you) so you eat bullets and need to heal. Your nice armor degrades faster
>>

Is it bad? I only tried it out a little when I found grognaks axe, and I enjoyed it. I was going to do a melee run when all of the DLC was out.

Also, is unarmed even a thing in fallout 4?
>>
>>332442810
Enemies die so fast it's not really a problem.
>>
I enjoy melee weapons just so I can destroy giant bugs with pipes and bats.
>>
>>332441593
Unarmed is a pain in the ass when you start out though
Until you get Love and Hate or something most fights will just be you knocking shit down with boxing gloves for like 2 minutes until they finally die
>>
>>332442743

I did all melee in Fallout 4, even on the highest difficulty I became one sledge man
>>
>>332441103
Bethesda games after Morrowind lack visual feedback when attacks land. Your fists and weapons are basically made of marshmallows.
>>
>>332443128
Yeah you need a couple of nice perks, and then there's some perks locked behind a high melee AND unarmed skill, something like 60/60 or 75/75 if I remember correctly, so I'd raise Melee up in the beginning mainly, and maybe 2-3 points in Unarmed per level

That's why you check out the shops. I found a bladed gauntlet on sale in Primm on my current run, and had brass knuckles dropped.

I'm always fascinated with those kind of placeholder hack solutions. Necessity is truly the mother of invention.

Now if only fucking everything wasn't a hackjob in Bethesda games.

I'm not sure how it works exactly, but I'd like to see that Tale of Two Wastelands mod do this. You go pick up a sunset star sarsparilla cap, then get to the Fallout 3 world and wait and see if Malcolm shows up

Shitty engine with shitty unreactive melee mechanics. Also no groin or eye punches.

the only fun i found in fallout 4 (only game i tried a meleebuild) was screaming allahu akbar as i ran headfirst towards enemies literally chopping their heads off as i ran by
Got boring quick though

Literally stand behind a wall, jesus christ.
>>

What's wrong with it? I played like 90% of the game using it and did fine.
