Yes. Game & Wario on the Wii U. You play Wario Ware games on the Gamepad, and this is the view on the TV. Your goal is to go as far as possible in the infinite Wario Ware levels. But Mom is not happy that you play video games after bedtime so she check on you.

>the paths only appear when you try to walk off one of the edges of said platforms, no way to tell they exist until you physically attempt to walk off
>paths are also identical save for the occasional different path slope; combined with no compass, this completely fucks your sense of direction
>10+ different teleporters that take you to fuck knows where, they're labeled in roman numerals but X could take you to XVIII for example so there's no pattern
>there are 16 identical barrier gates that block paths leading to essential teleporters
>X gate is only unlockable by finding the X switch 5 platforms away that opens X gate for exactly 2 minutes
>if you don't remember exactly which gate is opened or waste even a little bit of time via directional confusion or trying to find pathways that aren't there, then you gotta fumble for 10 mins through teleporting mapless monster hell to find the way back to the switch to try again
>the only save spot is deep inside this convoluted shithole, if you need to stop playing you either A: spend 25 mins running out and renavigate to where you were later, or B: turn the game off
>if you run out of items you have to spend 40+ mins running out of the crystal and then giruvegan, provided you can even find the exit

On my first run I think I lost at least half my squad just to get to the bridge of the ship and then once I called in the airstrike I had two of my remaining soldiers make a mad dash for the evac point while the one that went to the bridge sacrificed himself by distracting most of the chrysalids. I couldn't handle losing so many of my top-tier soldiers so I ended up save-scumming. Not my proudest moment, but fuck that level. No other level in that game ever got as FUBAR as that level.

The story has you do an easy bit as an introduction to it, but other than that it's optional.

Played FF12 for over 400 hours as it was my favorite game. I'll fight bosses with instakills and over 50 million hp in a game where you can't deal more than 9999 in one attack, but i'm sure as fuck never going to give that area another shot.

Just beat this map yesterday, wasn't that bad. Just hid all my units/decoys in the trees at the start to tank hits. Quickly took them out and reunited with the reinforcements. AWDS had one where the top screen displayed a satellite or something and you had to use 9 missile silos to take it down. The game gave you 30 real minutes to win the map.
The start is the critical part, as there's a bunch of infantry chomping at the bit to fuck your silos over.

Shining Force 2 is great though, (if you upgrade your priest to a master monk, you can easily get them to level 80 by the end of the game) and you can beat all the final bosses with just the one character

I heard about this beforehand, however I still went into the game blind. Took me about 30 or 40 minutes to do that area, got by pure luck I guess. Now when I went back there to get some legendary weapon or something that was supposed to help with yiazmat, it took me like a fucking hour to find it, even with a guide. So I feel your pain. FF12 is like probably my favorite JRPG now. Also Yiazmat is a bitch, I don't know what to do when he gets down 3 or 4 bars, and just starts 1 hit ko-ing everyone.

The only part I fucking hate is after the house past the ogre, where there are like 5 waterguys, 4 casters and those two pricks at the end that can run Sanic in the water and stunlock you. Bravo B-team and your "more is better" philosophy.
Tickcave has a weird bonfire and the area after that has just two casters and some easily spottable waterguys. Didn't even want to deal with Kindalurs bullshit my first time through.

I love the aesthetic for this area, Demon of Song might even be my favorite boss looks-wise, but this area is just a pain in the dick. Thankfully I didn't go through it before the patches, heard it was an absolute nightmare.

I like anything that's stupid difficult, I sunk so much time into Dustforce back when it came out I could run Giga Difficult with my eyes closed.
More recently, I've been getting same kind of satisfaction (and frustration) with Cloudbuilt, the levels are a lot more manageable, which means the timers to keep your place on the leaderboard are really tight.
