You use a mechanical keyboard, right? You become better at videogames using one.
>>
>Better at video games

Is there a more inane skill to tout?
>>
I bought a K70 because I'm a retard who likes light up stuff, turned out it was a pretty good keyboard. I don't regret it.
>>

I don't play videogames seriously so I don't really care.
>>
No. Stupid waste of money.
>>
There's 0 (zero) benefit to using one. It's just buzzword garbage like mirrorless cameras, SSDs, and more. Don't fall for the /g/ bandwagon.
>>
>>332432853
I can confirm that my video game skills have improved 10 times with a mechanical keyboard.

Shame that 10 times 0 is still 0.

Been using a K70 with blue switches for over a year now and I honestly can't imagine going back to a membrane keyboard, even outside of playing video games its just an overall better feeling

>>332433804
Depends on what games you play, red switches are generally the safer option for your first mechanical, since they're very soft and non-clicky and work well for nearly everything.
>>
After using greens everything else seem frail and weak. Idk how you guys can play on reds and blues.
>>
I bought a k70 because PERTY LIGHTS.
That being said, it's actually a really nice keyboard
I've got no experience with mechanicals, so I got red switches; feels good man

>>
Do people really exist who can't play video games unless they use special snowflake equipment? Can you really not beat that boss unless you use a mechanical keyboard?
>>
>>332434251
honestly, I'm looking to buy blues just for the clicky feel. I only play casul single player games like fallout 4 or occasionally GTA Online, I play the rest of my games with the 360 controller

I have brown switches on my K70, could someone please explain the colour coding? I know nothing.

it's more about the feel, not about you want to become better at playing or anything. you can do that without mechs
>>
>>332434637
Fair enough, just keep in mind that blue switches are relatively loud (especially if you're bottoming-out the keys).

Can't recommend the K70 enough, just be sure to update the software it comes with.
>>
What's the cheapest and smallest mechanical keyboard?
>>
>>332434251
>red switches are generally the safer option for your first mechanical

I don't agree with this at all, honestly. Reds are switches that you should only buy after you've tried them and made sure they're for you, they are extremely sensitive and appeal to a very niche market for switches.

Browns are the best entry level keys, imo. I would be willing to bet the majority of mechanical keyboard owners have brown switches.
>>
>>332434837
So you can feel the autism click from each press of a key
>>
>>332434837
It feel SOOOOO much better to use.

If you have a membrane right now and you're happy with it don't bother switching because you will never be able to go back.

Anytime I go from my mechanical keyboard to the membrane on my laptop it just feels awful.
>>
>>332434590
Being an avid rhythm game player (Stepmania, Osu!, and Phase Shift mostly) the ability to distinctly hear your key presses is a huge advantage.
In certain genres they really do improve your skill.
>>

It's lasted longer than most of the keyboards I've used in the past, and it feels pretty good to type with. I don't regret it one bit.

Been using Mechanical Keyboards for 2 years and there is no difference skillwise between somone who bought even shit like a WASD keyboard vs someone who bought a K120.

The only difference is just feels better to type on a mechanical. For some people that high price tag is worth it for something you are literally using 24/7
>>
>>332435550
>>332435436
Blues are marginally heavier if I remember correctly. I think they require like +5ng of force to activate over the browns.

You are just restating his argument. I dislike mechanical keyboards and I was glad that they were disappearing from the surface of this planet. I don't understand the hype and I genuinely think that people saying they are better for anything are stupid.

The best keyboards are those with flat keys from laptops. Also, I've seen a post in this thread stating that a mechanical keyboard could enhance your performance in rhythm games but from my own experience it's literally the other way around.

Anyway, though it pains me to admit it, it may just be a matter of taste.

A lot of comments here try to make a point out there being no advantage having a mechanical keyboard. They obviously dont play games which invovle fast paced movement with WASD or something similar. Understandable that they dont get the gist of it that way.

If you play arena shooters, rhythm games, MOBAs, RTS or something that requiers a lot of inputs a mechanical keyboard is hard to ignore.

Generic rubberdome or laptop keys with little to no feedback gives a terrible feel.

The only thing that is somewhat annoying about being a K95 owner is that we got that those macro keys that you don't get with the more popular K70s, and most profiles won't be made with K95 in mind.

Do it. That SSD is perfectly adequate to be your OS drive.

What do you mean by "ruining your keyboard?"
>>
>>332450668
I'm using like 8 year old drives that came with a pre built dell PC.

They are probably mega slow but I have nothing to compare it to.

Get the SSD.

I don't remember where nor can I quite recall exactly, but the gist was that the switch wasn't built for bottoming.

I bought a steelseries 6gv2, went from gold nova 2 to supreme in just two days!

It's like 60 bucks dude. Get two and put them on raid and cruise.

They actuate at 2 mm and can travel to 4mm, so if you're bottoming out you're wasting energy.
I've never heard of the keyboard breaking or being actually ruined anywhere.

I'd buy something with greens if they were on decent boards that are actually available, the CM Storm is the only non-autist board in stock, and has this fugly green backlighting

Ducky never answered my email on if they'll make a Shine 4 or 5 with greens somewhere down the line, so that's probably the end of that
