Mafia is literally an italian thing. Italian mafia didn't accept black people. Black people usually form gangs. There was a black gang mafia thingie I guess, but it was a bit different.
My problem with the game isn't a theme, that much, even though it seems more generic to play as some gang leader rather than a mafia leader which would be nice to see after two games where you were the lowest guy or hitman. My problem is with whacky arcadey driving, what looks to be an uninspired cover shooter with little atmosphere and a generic revenge story. Mafia games, or at least the first one (and even the second one a bit) were about more realistic approach to both story telling, driving and shooting, so it's disappointing to see something that belongs in Saints Row here.

I was actually really hoping Mafia 3 would take place in the late 60s, but instead of Louisiana, I wanted it to be set in Las Vegas. Go the GTA route and take inspiration from movies like Casino. I can imagine missions like wrecking other mob family-owned casinos, burying bodies in the desert, shit like that.
I'll still give this game a chance, but I have low expectations for it, and I really liked Mafia 2 so it's not like I'm hard to please.
