It really is a matter of gitting gud, shit is so satisfying when you nail your technique and get those A or S-ranks.

I did a full run of Zero Collection making sure to reset if I didn't get A or S-rank, and had so much more fun for it.
No consumable elves either. This made Zero 1 complete agony towards the end because minimum health no sub-tanks

I mean giving you a high-level cyber elf from the start does make you pretty strong and hard to stop, but you also can't work towards the higher levels.

Am I the only one that considers the boss battle themes in MM games to be the most important factor in the game's music?
I mean Zero 2 has probably the best stage themes in the entire Z series but the boss theme is absolute garbage to the overall experience feels worse than 3.

This. Apart from some of the retarded stages in the first game where you literally had to grind enemies to get max score on enemies killed, S ranking everything feels fucking good. That moment when you finally perfect a tough boss or bullshit stage is honestly the most satisfying experience I've had in any video game. The game controls so damn smoothly that you really have no one but yourself to blame if you can't git gud and when you finally do git gud, you know you've fucking earned it.

It strikes the balance of difficulty, skill and earned progression that Zero 1 attempted, it did away with the weapon levelling entirely and gave you Satellite Elves, and numerous beneficial upgrades for mobility and combat.
You also get cyberspace areas which were basically easy paths, because whilst in them you enjoyed the full effect of your cyber elves without consuming them. You still get a mission penalty for going in there though.

Variety matters. That was a really nice detail, a boss dying causing you damage trying to take you with him. Also adding the plot; all four guardians are defeated differently.

He pull it off the first time I beat him...
