>Shadowrun (Dragonfall and Hong Kong)
Gender and race selection literally don't effect the game in a meaningful way
Linear as fuck
iOS menus and design
Terrible combat
Nobody uses the creation tools because the games suck

>Wasteland 2
No true role playing thanks to the shitty party system
No replay value due to the shit tier character building system
Energy weapons are complete shit even with the best ones equipped
Certain poorly designed combat sections make you resort to using LAWs and RPGs to win (the brothel)

Lore dump dialogue
Bland and boring setting
Terrible, nonsensical balance (no combat for EXP but the game is full of trash mob combat)
Party relationships are complete shit (party members never do their own thing aka acting like real characters and not just your combat slaves)

Very few games do this, even fewer do it well.

Again nothing wrong with that, I enjoyed learning more of the world. Maybe you wouldn't have found the setting "bland and boring" if you had listened to the "lore dump"s.

You get XP for combat, there's just a limit of how much. It's to prevent grinding. It's not a perfect system, but do you really only play the game for XP and level up? Combat can be fun on its own on harder difficulties.

I'm not saying that any of those games are perfect and I agree with some of your other points, but they are enjoyable and while it's not a second golden age, at least it's something.

The fact that you don't understand a linear WRPG is bad means your opinion should be disregarded.

Not everything has to be open world, anon. I like the Witcher series, but my favorite games are BG1-2.
Whether a game is linear or open is a stylistic choice similarly to whether it's real time or turn based. Neither is better than the other.
In a lot of the highly regarded classics, nonlinearness just means visiting the same areas in a different order and doing the same quests in whatever order you like.
