not really. the parallel universes stuff in interesting. It's fun to see how hard you can break the game just to satisfy something silly like not pushing A.
arbitrary code execution is fucking boring, once the code injection exploit is found, you can put fucking anything in there.
>hey guys watch me type in flappy bird code really slowly and awkwardly through mario world

>>332374492
Hes right though, whats the point of writing and executing code through a game when you could do the same exact thing on an actual programming environment? Meanwhile the other guy was using advanced physics and mathematics to literally break a game's engine so hard that he could practically manipulate the game world at will.
>>332374336
Nice projection fagtron, most of the stigma comes because normal people tent to develop practical skills rather than fucking video games.
so was each step before writing the payload done to make the code injection easier?

>>332375252
If you want to think about it, he's just programming in an extremely difficult language.
Call it a fun challenge.
>>332375375
Yes. Trust me, that's important. Remember: 331 spin jumps to inject the payload. If even a SINGLE one of those is one pixel off, you'll probably wreck the whole thing. Setting the coin and score counters to reflect his x-coordinate and relative location in memory allows him to make each jump precisely via pre-prepared notes
>>332375252
can't do the QPU shit on the console, it crashes the game.
>>332375498
Yes you can, you just can't let the camera follow you in. The only practical way to do it on console is via something like TASBot, though (pre-recorded controller inputs)
An A press is a jump, you can't say it's injecting bytes into RAM
>>332375301

I hope when I learn assembly next semester it isn't as autistically hard as this
>>332376738
It was the last good Mario game besides galaxy
>>332376829
In assembly you basically need to write an individual line of code for every single little mathematical operation you want to do. It can get messy quick.
>>332376667
>putting words in my mouth to try and save yourself from embarassment
Please stop you're just digging your own grave
>>332376768
No. It's not one spin jump, it's over 300 of them. Each spin jump inserts just a little bit of data. Most of the set-up work was to help him make sure each of those spin jumps would be in the right place (altering the function of the score and coin counters). If this were TAS, the spin jump positions and necessary inputs would be pre-recorded with no chance for error so those steps would be unnecessary.

>>332379943
Aw, damn it. I'm getting tired.
I don't understand your ebin meme, but Metroid and Other M isn't really a fair comparison. Ignoring Other M and the Prime series, I'd definitely say that yes, Metroid is the worst Metroid game. The distinction is, while it is the worst, it's also not BAD - just inferior to its sequels which are among the greatest games ever made. Other M, on the other hand, is pretty fucking bad. Gameplaywise it's REALLY not that bad, but the story (integral to the gameplay experience) is such a disaster and utterly wrecks the character of Samus Aran, which is probably the best thing the series had going for it. That's why it will always be the worst Metroid game.I like Metroid II more than any other 2D Metroid, besides Super
Well anyway, I don't see how any of this makes Sunshine not shit. I'll just assume that you agree with me, since you seem to be a rational man, and no rational person could actually like Sunshine.

I don't know what thread you're talking about. The universe doesn't revolve around you, you know.
NES Metroid isn't bad. Certainly not as bad as Sunshine, for example. Sure it has flaws, but most games made in '86 have flaws. Sunshine has no excuse for being such a gimmicky boring snoozefest.
Also, you should work on reading comprehension. I said Super is my favorite 2D (it's my favorite Metroid, period), but everyone shits on Metroid 2 and that upsets me. I know it's pretty flawed too, you'll notice I said "it's my second-favorite" and not "it's the second-best". See, I understand that things I like aren't perfect, because I'm not self-centered like you are!
And please, go to any Metroid thread and suggest that Samus is well-characterized in Other M. And you have the nerve to say I'm the one baiting!
