Should have been called Genericy.

Good list. Haven't played undertail or serpent yet but those other games are solid. Didn't like expeditions as much as age of decadence or divinity OS but it was still really cool.

Pillars of eternity and the shadowrun games can go right in the trash to be honest.

Yes. If it was so closely following rules of 5th Edition, why not fucking do at least that? Lootable fucking corpses?
>>332362762
Lazy devs decided that 'making a looting system would be to expensive, so we will use the money elsewhere'. Like fucking cocaine and hookers. Which isn't too bad, but hookers need to be really in to anal.
>>
>>332362762
You just can't loot most enemies when they die. The ones you can loot usually give quest rewards or special weapons. I don't really find it a huge issue as there's plenty to loot in the environment and your companions never really need new gear.

No crafting, I don't know what you mean by vendor variety, but there are a decent amount of vendors that either sell drugs, medicine/cyberware, guns/swords (Hong Kong has a dedicated melee vendor), spells, and tech.
Companions usually get new shit over the course of their upgrades or storylines. It's a fairly linear CRPG, but not bad at all.

>>332363078
>>332363229
Still don't see the issue with this really, it's just extra loot that would have made a somewhat easy game even easier.
>>

That's cool. I have an issue with it. Hence, I am complaining.

>>332363778
That's good for you, I never said you shouldn't complain about it. I just don't get why extra loot would stop you from enjoying a game with a good story and fun missions.

When, for example, I say that I will make a certain game, based on a certain tabletop system, and then leave out a portion of it, for no apparent reason, I would be considered a liar, no?
And this is what fucks it up for me. Not what I wanted, not what they said they will deliver. It is not as bad as Shadowrun Chronicles: Boston Killyourself, but still.

>When, for example, I say that I will make a certain game, based on a certain tabletop system, and then leave out a portion of it, for no apparent reason, I would be considered a liar, no?
Not really if the games are still true to the system aside from the looting. "Based on" doesn't necessarily mean "exactly like".

That being said, I'm unfamiliar with Shadowrun and it's rules/systems to so there might be some other portions of that system that were left out. But if there aren't any other and the games stay mostly true to the source material I don't see the issue really.

I found expeditions boring. And before you say I didn't give it a chance, I put about 10 hours into it. Story-wise, it was decent enough and the setting alone was what made me get it, but it didn't seem like there was a lot of depth to the character building or customization.

>>
>>332367726

If you don't give a shit about story and want challenging gameplay, I'd say probably go for the BG games but avoid reading powergamey hints on overpowered character builds. Fairly story-lite but with reasonable banter to fill in the cracks, and some really solid party management/character building/looting/dungeon running.

Dragon Age Origins and Pillars of Eternity are both similar but worse to the BG games.

Uhhh Underrail sounds decent I guess. I've heard good things about Inquisitor too, but also haven't played that. Wasteland 2 is mediocre, but a good time killer. Just got Arcanum and that isn't bad so far. You can also play Cyberpunk in 2077. Barely put a foot in Legend of Grimrock 2, but it's fun.

Kick kingdoms of amalur (it's an offline MMO that lacks any of the character and charm that MMOs usually generate) off that list, and only play the first borderlands (the looting and shooting are objectively worse in the second game, though I haven't played the pre-sequel so I can't say on that one). I would say not to play undertale because I thought it was pretty poor, but it's short and very polarizing so it's worth a try at the very least. Also add underail, It's the true successor to fallout 2.

I tried playing original sin coop with my sister, but our busy schedules and killed that.
It also made us very inefficient and it took way to long to get things done.

>>332367975
I'm doing a thread that's me bitching about burnout in single player games. Witcher games fell victim to this. I quit after the dragon fight in witcher 2 because my character was too poorly optimized to beat it. I beak dark souls bit I couldn't finish act 3. I got 18 hours into witcher 3, but I can't anymore there's too much to do and I want to do it all, but I get exhausted just thinking about it.

>>332367981
I've played every single spiderweb software demo. With the exception of avernum 4-6, and the Avadon games, I really enjoyed all of them. The writing is good, the choices matter, the loot is good, the character builds are good. The post apocalyptic setting of 1 is particularly awesome. But it's 5 games, all many hours long. It's intimidating.

>>332368047
I have bg1ee on my phone. It's exhausting to play, but I add a few minutes every time I go to drill. Weirdly, bg2 on my computer is even worse. I got through the dungeon, ended up in the city, and i straight up got lost and quit.

>>332369778
I tried and failed to finish 2. I actually hear lots of good things about ore sequel. Ignoring the fact claptrap is a playable character, that also means he has way less lines than bl2 aparantly. The classes are far more fun, and laser/ice weapons are way better than slag.

My best friend loved undertale. He's an anon too, but he says the little surprising and ways it plays on your expectations is satisfying. I just have this weird thing were its not recognizing when I press keys on my keyboard and the last to times I tried to start it it crashed.

Will there ever be a good non-isometric RPG?
>>
>>332371798
Burnout guy here. Up until, the last 5 minutes, mass effect trilogy were my favorite games off all time. The destination was shit but the journey was really something. But now I can't really enjoy single player games anymore because of how crushingly bad the ending was.

Neverwinter nights 2, mask of the betrayer. It's still an isometric, but with 3d models and you can change the camera to be more like the KotOR camera.

Kotor, 1&2, for very different reasons.

System shock 2 has some rpg elements, and a good story.

Dark souls is an action RPG, but there's a story, more, characters, XP, loot, vendors, and builds.

Lots of people like fallout new Vegas.

>>
>>332372431
>Up until, the last 5 minutes, mass effect trilogy were my favorite games of all time.
Holy shit, how could you not see the writing on the wall, I noticed the drop in writing quality in 2 and then when I started to play 3 the whole ship just fell apart. I mean the whole crucible macguffin being found on mars (a backwater planet due to everything here being researched to hell and back, BUT WAIT WE MISSED LITERALLY THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN THE UNIVERSE) the fact that reapers now want earth for some reason and not the citadel, oh also the fact that the citadel isn't even a target for reapers. It's like hey there's the central hub for the entire alliances communication and strategy sectors, but we'll just ignore that. The races and their tensions are completely glossed over, nothing you did in previous games had any real effect on what happened (either in the outcome or during the actual game). Shit, I could go on for ages but I'm sure you get my point.
>>
>>332375630
Hindsight is 20/20

The salarian/krogan racial tension was there.

Mass effect 3 was sloppy, even before the end. But that ending was spectacularly bad. If you've ever seen Mr.Btounge, he laid down what happened pretty good.
>>
>>332376253
>Hindsight is 20/20
Except I said:
>I noticed the drop in writing quality in 2
Which is foresight, not hindsight.
>If you've ever seen Mr.Btounge, he laid down what happened pretty good.
I was there, I played the game. I was in denial about how shit things were until the end, I was hoping it would redeem the titles shortcomings. But it didn't, it was just more of the same schlock. The only redeeming feature is that they added some semblance of customization to the guns and the multiplayer, which is fucking sad.

>The salarian/krogan racial tension was there
Why was it there? Did the krogans somehow find out about the special black ops team that was working for the taurians? When did this happen? how did this happen?
Honestly that just tears open five more avenues of plot holes.

>tfw preorder Mass Effect 3 CE and endings leaked
>tfw couldn't resist urge to listen to end dialogue

I don't think I've ever felt more sad and confused about a series I liked. Sure Mass Effect 2 was shit filler, but ME3 was supposed to give a satisfying end. At the very least it was supposed to deliver an acceptable end. Nope. That killed preorders mostly for me.
>>
>>332377159
Well I didn't notice. I just followed along right up until the end. Right up until I entered the citadel and shit went sideways. Only after watching all that shit did I go back and wonder
why the fuck were they building the human reaper in 2
how the fuck did the entirety of Cerberus, which in 2 we were told were splintered cells, become indoctrinated
So I read posts and watch YouTube videos.
And I got really sad. I invested myself into those games. And like I said, up until the last 5 minutes I was satisfied. But looking back, I could see all the crap, and how the shitty writing started in mass effect 2. I just didn't notice.
>>
>>332378117
I preordered battlefront 3. You don't know the depths of disappointed
>>
>>332378228
ME3 was far higher on the disappointment scale. I mean it actually looked like it might be an ok game (at this point in time the only black mark on biowares name was DA2 and no one from that was meant to be working on ME3), not to mention it was the (anti-)climactic end of a series that lasted over 7 years. Battlefront reboot was obviously gonna be shit from the get go. Sure it's a shame that it came out so shit, especially considering free radical pretty much finished the real battlefront 3 but you really only have yourself to blame.
