Play anything other than Malkavian or Nosferatu for your first playthrough. Venture and Brujah are good choices. Also, while the game gives you a lot of freedom in how to tackle things, the last 20-30% of the game is very combat heavy so don't neglect a combat skill.
Play Redemption first, criminally underrated game that all the milennials here didn't play because they were toddlers when it came out.
