This is a fantastic game with a great soundtrack. The voice acting can be a bit cheesy but this game is a big budget standard jrpg that continues to hold up very well. I'm speaking as someone who spent close to 200 hours in it exploring and getting every achievement.

There was a really big push to make JRPGs a thing on the 360 and get it's sales up in japan.
There were a big handful of exclusives and timed exclusives, and Final Fantasy with multi platform for the first time. But FF13 was trash, and everything kind of fell apart after that.
It felt like FF5 with all the fun and interesting stuff sucked out

I was a twerp when this came out and it was one of my first JRPGS and games for the 360 ever. I loved the fucking shit out of it like you wouldn't even imagineit didn't help that I was (and still am) a sucker for dragons. When I heard that it was getting an anime I bragged about it for months with my other twerp weeaboo friends and when I heard it was getting a sequel for a console I didn't own I actually cried.
I remember loving the shit out of the anime as well (it didn't matter to me how outsourced it was from the original material) to the point of creating OCs and hoping that one day they would dub it and bring it to my country so I could continue being a loser about Blue Dragon on my own.
Looking back at all the atrocities this dead franchise bestowed upon me, I kinda want to rewatch the anime sometimes just for the sake of nostalgia. Everything this game had to offer (which was very little) made a part of my childhood and fucked me up beyond repair. I loved the shit out of Blue Dragon. I really did.

It was slim pickings for both until LO/Vesp/IU/BD showed up on 360.

I guess you're right about Folklore. It did come out around LO. The ES PS3 port didn't come out for another year though.
If you ever get the chance of playing Folklore, you should at least try it out. It's a fairly unique action RPG. It does get very repetitive and you're basically forced to play through the game twice as two different characters, so be warned.

The PS3 JRPG machine didn't start rolling until Demon's Souls, Disgaea 3, and Valkyria Chronicles were released. Unfortunately, it never got better afterwards with tons of shovelware JRPGs and disappointing games like NNK.
