What does /v/ think of Cave Johnson?
After playing Portal 2 again, I found him to be an interesting character. Even though he pushed his workers to limit, and claims everyone stole his research / technology, he just seems so godly enthusiastic about mankind. Do you think this is just him fueling his massive rich ego, or does he genuinely show immense pride and excitement in the universe?

LEMONS!
Who cares? He died. All the science couldn't help him.
JK Simmons is a legend
>claims everyone stole his research / technology,
Well, they kind of did, didn't they? I don't think it's a coincidence how similar the Portal Gun and the Gravgun look, and he was a direct rival to Black Mesa anyway.
Kind of liked the setting laid out in Portal 1 more, though- no Cave Johnson, just Aperture as a rival company to Black Mesa with similar lunatic work 'ethics' and total lack of OSHA compliance.

Everyone has to die. Science did help him and probably millions of other people.

Fun Fact: The character was named after the second-most famous Postmaster General in American history. The real Cave Johnson was a man of genuine accomplishment and innovation, but he will always be overshadowed by Benjamin Franklin, by far the most famous Postmaster General.

He's either a good character
Or he's a meme character

Was Black Mesa even mentioned in the first game? I thought a lot of the lore relating to Half-Life's universe was included later, since the first game was just a self-contained mod.

>Was Black Mesa even mentioned in the first game?
Well yeah. You walk by big meeting boards showing how Black Mesa was beating Aperture in profits and their even mentioned in the 'Still alive' song.

In the bowels of the complex there are a number of signs and projector screens relating to Black Mesa and Aperture competing for government funding (obviously Black Mesa won).

One of the few times everyone was 100% fine with the actor who won the Oscar.
It was an amazing movie, but Simmons performance pushed it over the edge into greatness.

OP confirmed for libertarian
He said it himself, he isn't just throwing things at a wall to see what sticks, he had a clear view of the future and did everything to make it possible.
>>332340556
I like him because he's just a billionaire thinking science will make him richer, and not just the usual, cliché, "scientist with humanity's best interests at heart"
Portal 2 just tries way too hard to be funny.

>Portal 2 came out nearly 5 years ago
I liked how energetic he was and felt bad in his last tapes are he was clearly a foot away from dying and every one of his dreams were crumbling
