I can see other people liking it, not gonna lie, caught a few feels toward the end. But it is absolutely non-deserving of all the praise and attention it gets. There is nothing to it. It is a baby game for fucking babies. If you like this game you are a simpleton casual who has never played a truly touching game such as Mother 3. Most of Undertale's fans are people who never played video games before. They're tumblr girls who only played shitty mobile games, then one day downloaded a cracked version of Undertale because they heard it was progressive and they get all feels about it.

Bullet hell was a cool idea but only two bosses present a decent challenge and you'd have to grind to get there which is a shame that true route with most content is the easiest while genociding, with best boss fights doesn't have much aside from those two boss fights.
I liked Undertale when I played it but after recently playing through it again I was able to catch some flaws in its execution that wasn't apparent my first time.
The endings: Anyone with some knowledge of the game would know that not staying full Gandhi or Hitler makes your route neutral, which is largely the same as the pacifist route. This lack of variation makes it less interesting than genocide/pacifist because all that really changes is the phone call at the end. This kind of ruins the point of the morality the game teaches because you may spare everything not because you want to, but because your run is ruined if you don't. For a game heavy on metacommentary, it should have acknowledged this.
The Characters: the characters are the entire selling point of the game. Your opinion on whether you liked the game or not is heavily dependent on whether you liked Sans, papyrus, Toriel, Undyne, monster Kid, Alphys and Mettaton. If you don't, then entire sections the game becomes tedious as you're forced to interact with these characters unless you're doing a genocide run. If you found Papyrus or MK or Alphys annoying, then Snowdin, Waterfall, Hotland will be a chore instead of fun. Even if you don't dislike them initially, any subsequent runs will make them more grating as you're simply mashing the skip key to get through their dialogue.
The art: It's clear that Toby Fox is no artist since for the most part, the environments are really basic and the overworld sprites are simple. The battle sprites are slightly better since the monochrome color scheme and face to face view but they're nothing special. The art style can be jarringly inconsistent because of the different artists designing their own sections: compare the bunny shopkeeper to Temmie or Burgerpants.
Music: If it weren't for the music, most of the game would fall flat. It's extremely well done even though most songs are samples of one another, it's not apparent unless you were listening for it.

Because it's $10, which means it's easily accessible, some effort went into the gameplay, which means it's not just a walking simulator even if it is easy as hell (and again, being easy makes it more accessible), and it's short, which means people who like it are left wanting more instead of it overstaying its welcome and people who don't like it are left with more of a "meh" feeling instead of feeling like they wasted a significant amount of time.

It's a short game with minimal replay value. You're meant to play it blind - obviously when you can look behind the curtain of how the storytelling works things don't work as well.
The game expects you to not know things, play neutral, and defeat Flowey. Flowey encouraging you to do it pure pacifist after that is specifically so that he can harvest a 7th soul and get a round 2 against you, by playing on your desire to get a better ending. If you decide to detach yourself as a player and do a pacifist run to optimize your outcomes, that's your own choice, but the game has in-game reasons to push you towards a pacifist outcome and that in itself is more than most do.

The problem is that you were aware of the game and the amount of hype that surrounds it.
I played the game at launch, after having played the demo a while back, and I really liked the game. I thought it was quaint, and the game was short enough to not leave me tired of the bullet dodging by the end.
At this point, however, its practically impossible to have not heard about UT and its ridiculously massive autistic fanbase that treats it like it is something amazing and innovative, something that warrants the continued discussion and circlejerk of a game that took me 8 hours to be over and done with, making you expect that the game is something more than it is.
