The 3ds is doing pretty well. I like mine. Wii U is a good console, but it's a little pricey for me and tops out with 32gb (fuck that). I hope NX changes shit up pretty good.

The wii prompted a complete refocus in direction towards people who don't usually play videogames, thinking it was an untapped market. In reality the wii was just a lucky fad and now people are over it, but Nintendo still insists on shitting out things their only remaining audience doesn't even want.
Hopefully the wii U's poor was a big enough slap in the face to get them back on the right track, but the realistic thing to expect is another gimmick console come E3

The Wii U is a fucking mess, but it's alright.
Amiibos I don't really care about, I only have one and it's because I had the spare cash.
My main gripe is the pointless fucking censorship and how their losing touch with their fans in general.
So many series' have bit the dust and even more have turned into shit, only few series' are even good anymore.

Most of the games I like are either from Nintendo or are on a Nintendo device. So I would say that I prefer them. Also they have Kirby. EO, Pokemon, KIU, all that jazz.
It sucks that they're going mobile though, and NoA's team is below sub-par. Not that I would have much else to look to, given the games I enjoy.

I'm tired of their censorship, or them dictating what content I should or should not be allowed to have access to. I'm tired of having shit changed arbitrarily in the name of "the children!" which is especially retarded in T or M rated games.
I'm also tired of them completely missing the point. Every Ninty game I've played these past few years just feels like a shell of it's former self (Paper Jam), with the rare exception of the ones that are good because it was based on an earlier Nintendo game that was good (ALBW). They used to be great at innovating in the sense of smashing conventions and putting their characters in new and interesting scenarios (the Mario RPGs, for example) but now all their "innovation" just seems to be shoving gimmicks in. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was the Colour Splash reveal. It really showed me how completely out of touch Nintendo is.
They've got to change by a 180 degree margin to win me back, and that seems very, very unlikely based on their recent behavior.

nintendo doesn't have third party in the traditional sense.
but a lot of their most popular recent games have been from outside the "miyamoto/aonuma/sakamoto/etc" pool of devs.
Splatoon was made by younger staff, Xenoblade X doesn't look like shit because Monolith Soft are competent devs, even SF Zero is looking decent thanks to Platinum coming in to save it from mediocrity.
You can even see this with some of their older stuff.
NoA (the old NoA) made Thousand Year Door even better by adding some personality to what was originally very dry dialogue. (They also did a similar thing with KI Uprising.)
Retro made all the recent DK games and all of them were great. They are also held in high regard for their work on Metroid. Again, stuff made by outside devs or people not in the immediate miyamoto-circlejerk seem to have a higher success rate
hell even Smash Bros isn't Nintendo, used to be HAL Labs + Sakurai, now it's Namco + Sakurai.

because those handful of dudes write the "laws" associated with each game project. like sakamoto telling the devs "no nunchuk" for Other M, and getting into conflict because of the "law" he made years ago, that samus is always purple in the gravity suit. (when you read the Iwata Asks you can sense how desperately the staff tried to push sakamoto back towards a purple suit, because they treat these 'laws' as gospel. another example would be miyamoto saying "no new characters!" in paper mario, and all the devs just accept that as an additional 'law' of future paper mario games.)
