I kind of feel bad for all the people who bought a Rift. Seated VR is a joke. You need to immerse yourself and move around. Oculus really fucked up on this. At least the Vive has roomscale and REAL VR games.
>>
>>332314971
VR is a joke.
>>
>>332314875
That's not so bad. It was really cool when the Ghost in the Shell anime did it.
>>
>>332315017

I kind of believe all the people who have the Vive Pre who say it's a proper VR experience. I watch TribalInstincts's livestreams and youtube videos and it seems pretty legit. I'm getting mine mid-April anyways so I'll wait and try it myself. I have a lot of faith in Valve.

Have you tried vr horror games yet anon? Got drunk at a friends house and played some, holy shiet.

They had one with a weeping angels style gargoyle that was terrifying and everyone and then when you looked away a shadow demon would scream at you.
>>
>>332315784

Yeah but it's not 1:1 ratio. Notice how he always has to be in the cameras limited LOS. The Vive's lighthouses scan your entire room (which provides 360° tracking) and have implemented "chaperon" system to warn you from bumping into walls. It's a big deal.

Are you watching the Giantbomb VR stream ? They've been playing with it for hours and they're pretty negative about it.
>>
>>332315267
the more you can move around in VR the better so vive is definitely the best. the arguments about the screen are basically negligible, most people you'll show vr too couldn't care less.

It looks like Apple and Nintendo dodged a bullet

GB had the same thing to say about motion gaming and look where that went.

No one likes to talk about the cons of this "tech". Its all about what happens after the honeymoon period.

Its an isolated experience.
There are still major persistence issues.
Lack affordable hardware to drive decent resolution panels (of which non of these devices have).
Devices are bulky, non portable, have a lot of wires/devices to setup.
Will people be willing to use these for long sessions and will they be used daily beyond 6 months after ownership?

IMO the tech still isn't there yet and first impressions are going to be key in selling these systems to people who don't know anything about it or have concerns about the cost and long term support.

EVE: Valkyrie was the only game that looked like something you'd actually want to play in VR, and that looks mediocre.

By the time there's any games worth playing this hardware will be out of date. Revision 1 is Dead on Arrival.
>>
>>332318593

With no support for room-scale, the Oculus CV1 is already dead. I predict that in 6 - 8 months there will be a CV2 that supports room-scale along with the Oculus Touch. And everyone who bought the CV1 are going to get extremely pissed (much worse than the current PS4.5 drama).

Different anon here, but I kinda do, too, at least more than I have in facebook.

Looking what Valve does looks pretty transparent and NDA-free here https://steamcommunity.com/app/250820/allnews/

which is a complete opposite of what oculus has done since 0.8 sdk. In fact oculus put really heavy nda on everything before this day.. which reeks bad self confidence on their part.

Valve released CAD files for their controller, can you see oculus doing the same for their controllers?
>>
>>332318593
EVE looks cool but seems boring to me.

Hopefully they'll do same kind of a stream in a week or two for the vive too

I kind of do want to at least try it just to see what all the hubbub is about. Hopefully there'll be demo stations around before long.

So you actually haven't tried VR.

What the fuck is wrong with you? Why are you even here?
>>
>>332319256
Might b cool for 3d platformers so you can actually see where the fuck your character is in 3D space.

It almost worked well in Super Mario 3D Land but they still had to use the shadow under the player trick because the 3D on the 3DS was ass.

I tried the DK1, I wasn't impressed.

My question remains, why is a significant portion of the launch lineup of games are - by definition- not VR?
>>
It's a fucking gimmick. The technology simply isn't there. If I'm going to throw down $600, then I'm just gonna upgrade my computer or buy a nice monitor. Not some stupid headset that'll be outdated in a few months.
>>
>>332316242

This. Its new technology, only a fool would try to get in on the ground floor.

Im waiting until Im out of the military so I can smoke and trip becore I VR. And itll be more fleshed out and cheaper.

Can't wait until a few months have passed and all these VR headsets are gathering dust. Just like the 3D glasses gullible faggots bought a few years back.
