Well this was anticlimatic.
>>332313738
what happen
>>332314074
Nothing. The big mystery turns out to be a small mystery.
IT WAS JUST A PRANK, BRO
>>332313738
That's life bruh.
>you're an experienced hiker with (eventually) lots of equipment
>still can only traverse through pre-defined paths
thank you walking simulator you almost gave me the impression of actual exploration
I liked the game, but if you ever replay the game you'll realize that there is basically no variation in the dialogue, even though the game makes it seem like there is. Still though, the writing is good and charming and I enjoyed it.
>>332314257
it's a video game
>>332314660
the characters are believable and that's about it for the writing
>>332314074
Guy accidentally kills his kid, you find the kid's skeleton at the end of the game.
The other firewatch chick feels guilty because she didnt call in the kid being with his dad because... i forgot but who cares.
Oh yeah and the 2 teen brats just got arrested and put in the slammer in another town.
>>332313738
>In order to make sure you don't find the body of my dead son, which is at the bottom of a cave behind a locked door that you have no reason to ever go down into, and who you couldn't possibly know about as this is your first day on the job, I'm going to spend the entire summer making you think you're being watched by a secret government program, make you question your sanity and then give you the key to the cave, which I alone have, so you will climb down into the cave and find the body of my dead son.
>Then I'm going to light the forest on fire.
>You're an alright guy though :^)
>>332314953
I thought it was charming and I liked it.
>>332314996
also the research station amounts to nothing, the notes about the other ranges (who seem gay?) amount to nothing, the wierd shit in the supply boxes amount to nothing and the books amount to nothing
>>332314334
you're not an experienced hiker
>>332315192
I think you need some experience to take the job
and you spent like 2 months there, that's plenty of experience
>>332315047
Didn't the notes in his bunker say he was surprised how we found the key to the cave? What was up with that, didn't he lead us to it with the tracker?
>that beginning setup while artsy fartsy is terrible since it gives the player NOTHING to latch onto afterwards about the dude and his wife
>summed up as "shit_happens.txt"
>just 5 minutes of interactions, you don't even get to see her face ever
>only remember her again at the halfway point because it's brought up and you have to explain it to the other chick
>completely forget otherwise
>suddenly at the end of the game "dude i think you should really check up on your wife"
>.... who?
I ask this every fucking thread and I never get an answer
Did ANYONE even remember the wife at all after the halfway point?
>>332313738
I think it was the point, but it was kinda abrupt.
>>332316012
The wife calls you up on one of the days, and you get asked questions about your wife if you want too.
>>332316012
I remembered that I was married so I tried to keep flirting down with the other girl to a minimum. I didn't remember the name though and when that call/hallucination happens I was like "Jules? Oh right, my wife".
>>332315047
It's hilarious how completely nonsensical the ending was in the grand scheme of things
I think if it really was the government all along it would've actually made more sense
>>332316012
I did, though it wasn't really important by then. I think the introduction was pretty well done. Gives you the basic info without taking a lot of your time
>>332316012
I did.
>Whats her name tries to start flirting with me
>Ma'am I'm married
>Oh? Then why are you way out here??
>That's really none of your business
>THEN WHY DID YOU BRING HER UP WAAA
>[Lady is mad, she won't talk to you]
>>332313738
JUST PUSH PLAY
JUST
PUSH
PLAY
TURN IT UP
TURN IT UP
TURN IT UP
>>332314676
It's an interactive novel.
>FTFY.
what did you expect? some aliens and explosions and shit?
>>332316936
>take boombox all the way back to my tower
>no acknowledgement from anyone
>gone the next day
>somehow ned got it in the end
ree
I got why it ended like this but the writing was still atrocious. Dialogue was shit all around and the game should have been more point and click and less push forward.
>>332317017
Considering that's what has been built up for literally the entire game, yeah. Only at the very end do you get "lol ned did it all just a prank breh".
>>332317084
I get what you mean. The novelity and appeal of hiking through the open wilderness ended pretty quickly when you notice it's neither open nor wild.
It turns into tedious busywork fast.
>>332317298
>Oh no, there's a problem on the other end of the map!
>>332317298
Exactly, I try to look up as little as possible because I think even trailersnare spoilers, so I didn't expect it to be this much of a walking simulator. I expected actual mystery, forest fire fighting and multiple endings.
>>332316461
All of the info could have easily been given in the actual game though. The "options" are so small and meaningless that the history could have been given the moment you decide to explain your past to the other chick. The "closer moments" could have been given in the dream. There could have even been more dream encounters which would have been cool, delving into your past.
There, you have some intrigue and wonder carrying the player through half of the game about who your character is, why he's sorta depressed and what happened before he took the job.
Instead the game goes huge downer in 5 minutes then goes back to cheery, implements a hugely out of place text adventure just to get through the past as quickly as possible so the player is up to speed.
It comes off just as shitty writing
>>332317131
At some moment I suspected that slut from other watchtower is my government supervisor and its all setup with me as scape goat. And some other x files conspiracy shit.
So I reduce talking with slut to minimum and she start freaking out a little.
And then was nothing and boring ending.
Well shit.
The best stories happen in your head.
>>332313738
No kidding bro. Worst ending in a game for a good while. It wasn't really an ending even. fucked it up
At the start of the game, you have the option to listen in on Deliliah talking with someone else about how "he doesn't suspect a thing". I didn't choose to press that but I never figured out what that was about. What was that?
>>332318014
Her boyfriend
She's a huge slut and is doing the escapism thing also
This game could be decent if was done by some Nips.
You know more characters to chatter, hidden stuff, multiple branches of choices and many endings with game plus.
But it was done by some San Francisco faggots so its why you don't have nice things.
well at least the story isn't as pretentiously weak as Somas
>Game has a big TWEEST at the end
>"Wow, tryhard artsy bullshit" or alternatively "Saw the twist coming from a mile away"
>Game has a slight tweest at the end, being otherwise mundane
>"Wow, did they even try?"
>>332318117
Player Character - fat loser
Romance Options - stupid old slut
Main Enemy - retarded loser
Western games , huh?
>>332316810
>Build up a relationship with the other ranger
>Apparently know her quite awhile
>Get to the end where you can ask her if you can meet up
>Ask, I want to finally see this woman who I have been speaking to for months and see if we could become pretty good friends
>lol no I don't think it's a good idea
Well fuck you too game.
>>332316012
I did too. It isn't fucking hard remembering the backstory of a character you play unless you're completely retarded. Especially when the backstory is
>you have a wife
>she got sick
>you left
Retard
>>332318245
Yeah mysteries are hard if you're not a skilled.
>how it should've ended
>>332318117
her boyfriend? Really?
>mfw I found out the only choice of actual consequence is at the very end where if you just look at the helicopter for a couple of minutes it leaves without you
>>332318245
Hence why you have a game with a moderate twist, nothing over the top or nonsensical.
>walking simulator made by a group of "le games are art" SJW faggots in San Francisco is a shitty game
Whoa, really?!?
>>332318701
cant remember myself but it was something completely normal made to sound mysterious. like the rest of the fucking story
>>332318868
It was interesting enough, when the pace picked up and the antagonist gets more aggressive things got pretty exciting.
Just then you get to the big dumb ending and you can't feel good about those parts anymore because now you know it was all pointless.
>>332318718
what happens? do you get burned alive and game over'd?
>mfw reading the threads on day 1 with people going "WHOA I SAID SOMETHING AND DELILAH STOPPED TALKING, THIS GAME HAS MULTIPLE ENDINGS FOR SURE"
>>332318701
Yea I think you find out she has a boyfriend when you look at her folder in the tent. I think. But at one point they do bring up her previous love interest and she goes full denial mode about it.
>>332319230
The helicopter takes off and the credits roll.
>>332319124
exactly this. thats why i cant bring myself to replay it, liked it alot til the ending came around
In the end I was almost sure Delilah would fuck you over and leave you behind to destroy all of the evidence.
But no
>I thought the camera would lead to something
>>332319617
Same here. Kinda liked it until the end. Now it makes me feel meh. Not gonna replay it becauseI only watched a Let's Play of it anyways.
>>332319452
jesus christ even in small hidden endings it goes all out to be as huge of a letdown as possible
>>332320034
you fucking nigger bet it was fucking pewds or some shit too
>>332319931
>See Brian's Body
>"Oh shit, this'll be important."
>Snap almost all the remaining photos to make sure I get a good shot
>Credits is just a slideshow of a dead kid
>>332317020
>all the way back to my tower
The fact that a number of people did this with all the books, and probably the antler, claw, pinecones, etc is alarming.
>>332320136
>pewds
Not even close.
>Get the rope/axe/whatever
>"Oh boy, time to open up all those secret areas!"
>95% are little shortcuts that save you like a minute
The game kinda lost all tension when I realized "Nah, they're not gonna animate a bear."
>illusion of choice
>having to walk from one side of the map to another just to pad out game-time
>a minor sub-plot completely takes over the main narrative towards the end of the game
I won't even bother pirating indie games any more, they're all just glorified walking simulators. Release a fucking short story next time instead of wasting my harddrive space.
>>332320635
>he bought the game
lol
>>332320153
Was there actually nothing for the books or anything else?
I pirated so I thought there'd at least be achievements for putting all the books onto the shelf and picking up all the trash
>>332320740
NOTHING
MATTERED
AT
ALL
There are no secrets or branching paths or real multiple endings.
>>332320730
I pirated it, not gonna waste 20 bucks on something I know completely nothing about.
>>332320740
Only stuff that you could take by holding down a button (Confiscating the whiskey, fireworks, adopting the turtle, etc.) came back to your lookout.
Was anyone else annoyed by the long laborious climbing-over-shit animations? It really came to a head in the cave where you get two blocks in a row of climb up, climb down (both first and second pass) for absolutely no reason.
>>332321438
gotta pad that length
so who or what tore up that tent
>>332321438
>path choices
>run straight over smooth terrain
>go around and climb three rocks instead
what the shit
>>332321906
The hobo guy that went insane after his kid died.
>>332321906
>DUDE SOMEONE OR.... SOMETHING TORE UP THOSE GIRLS TENTS
>DUDE I DON'T KNOW IF I SHOULD SAY THIS BUT 2 GIRLS HAVE GONE MISSING
>OH MY GOD
>HOLY SHIT
>month later
>nvm they're fine lol
>>332322241
>So what should I say in my report
>...
>guess we know nothing then. Kay!
>shit man; theyre missing and i lied
>shit
>>332322476
>tell delilah to tell the truth
>she lies
>freaks out on me when she realizes she's in trouble
fucking idiot bitch
GOOD THING IT DIDNT MATTER ANYWAYS LOL
>>332322774
Really, she lies anyway?
ILLUSION
OF
CHOICE
>>332322891
Yeah. Stupid slut.
>firewatch
>you dont watch fires
>>332323778
But you do.
>>332323778
Actually you do.
