>He bought the Oculus Rift because he was too impatient for the real VR experience from HTC

How does it feel that you've made the biggest buyer's remorse purchase of your pathetic virgin lives?
>>
They don't feel anything, their delusion and damage control is too great.

At the end of the day, it's still a fucking Viewmaster.
>>
recently tried the rift. when you're not immersed in the game, the pixels are painfully obvious.

wait for v2 of both vive and rift i'd say
>>

Vive has accurate hand and body tracking. Lets you walk around a 10x10 ft square

is that a girl or a guy in the OP?

Oculust Rift is for normie shit

HTC is for gaming

PSVR is a fucking joke

This is literally common sense. Think back to any new tech. The first gen is always expensive as fuck. But the second gen is both cheaper AND better.

Take the VR hype goggles off and wait a year or two. There's no rush, especially when more powerful cards better suited to handling VR will be around the corner that allow you to experience VR at a solid framerate.

And PLEASE tell me you aren't retarded enough to buy Sony VR, /v/

>This time it will be different.

This is pretty much what's wrong with video games and the entertainment industry in general.

I just got done playing Diablo 3 for the first time and was just flabbergasted by how far the franchise had fallen. Sure, it *looks* cool, but I could just go to /wsg/ for that. The new mechanics were both redundant and unoriginal. It was like World of WarCraft without a global cooldown or complimentary abilities. So instead of having a rotation you had a 'oh, I can just ignore the rest of my abilities and hold down 3 on the keyboard'.

VR will introduce us to a new age of boring games that look pretty. Remember how the Wii came out and it was mostly just rail shooters and Wii fit? Yeah, that's what these VR headsets will be like.

Posting this because hotpockets deleted that other thread, maybe they'll see it but feel free to ignore.

Then you haven't read a good book. It's called imagination, son.

>>332307424
>immersion is about mapping stuff to our senses so we perceive them as real

That's a pretty non-objective definition of immersion. In fact it's just wrong.

If you tie immersion to technology, you will never be satisfied. There will always be some new technological advancement that will make old technology seem so laughable in comparison. When Thief released it was considered incredibly immersive, and many people still consider it immersive, but by your definition because of its outdated graphics it CAN'T be immersive.

Like I said, imagination is important. Without imagination you won't be satisfied with anything that isn't 100% photorealistic.
>>
>>332307716
if that's too case then why even bother buying new consoles, there hasn't been any innovation since n64
>>
>>332307815
>watch Gaint Bomb play racing games
>once they're done exploring the bounds of the new gimmick, they just stare straight ahead because it's too disorienting to move your head around while concentrating on driving

So what exactly is the point of VR without room tracking?

I thought VR porn was pretty exciting on my cardboard, but once I got used to it, moving my head around didn't add anything to the experience anymore and I went back to regular porn.
>>
I don't give a single fuck about VR. Maybe it's because I've yet to try it, but the concept doesn't interest me. I really hope it dies in the water and never ever becomes mainstream as a result.
>>
>>332308802
What the fuck is wrong with you? It's one thing to not care about a new concept, but to hope it fails just because you're not interested? What kind of shit is that
>>
>>332306308
Who are you talking to?
>>
>>332309082
I don't want it to become the next big thing because then inevitably the next set of consoles will be built around it and that's the last thing I want.
>>
>>332307712
I am glad I only fell for the PS4 remorse.
>>
>>332306308
VR won't take off until you don't have to wear giant stupid goggles on your face like something out of a shitty early 90s Sci-Fi.

The only thing I've seen that has potential is Microsoft's Hololens thing they showed off because you don't need goggles, but that would have more consumer potential than gaming.
>>
The mobile phone/cardboard VR thing, can I hook that up to my PC in some way to use as a display.

I can't think of anything on my phone I'd want to VR.
>>
>>332309923
Hololens has a really small field of view. They don't really show that in those demos.
>>332310527
There are a bunch of programs for that. One is called Trinus, but I know there's another one too.
