Dead on arrival?
>>
>isolating

Wow, I wonder if this reviewer might have a slight bias.
>>
>>332301172
I knew it was dead on arrival back then when the kickstarter started.
>>
Most sites I've been seeing have been giving it around a 8.5

Not shipping with motion controllers was a major blunder.

Its library is taking off without too many major companies. It has one or two killer apps and its more fun to watch people play it rather than the rift. It's still a rudimentary setup but it's a huge step up from the rift. It's pushing devs to make actual immersive games rather than walking sims and the practical application is more than apparent.

I feel genuinely sorry for people who bought OR. Either the Vive is going to be THE way to go for VR or VR isn't going to be worth it.

Since HMDs aren't interesting, here's some insight into your picture. Each dimension of cube-like things is bounded by the cube-like things from one dimension lower: a 2d cube (a square) is bounded by four 1d cubes (line segments); a 3d cube is bounded by six 2d cubes. Likewise, your 4d cube (tesseract) shows eight 3d cubes, which are the bounding volumes of the 4d cube.
>>
>>332306121

So a 5d cube will have 10 4d cubes?
>>
What are the odds exclusives are going to be an issue? Price differences will obviously impact install base.

what games can you even play on oculus right now?

i've got disposable income and am super tempted to go for one in the near future (even if it is mostly just a novelty) but it seems like there isnt anything worth playing.
>>
>you need to do the waggle full room shit for it to be worthwhile
Why do you cucks keep acting like this is the only reason to get OR/Vive?
>>
>>332302254

U wot. I think VR is gonna flop hard, but this nigga is retarded.
>>
>>332302781
lol it wasn't consensual if she regrets it later
>>
>>332306630
Because they aren't losers who just want more immersive truck driving simulators and waifu fucking machines.
>>
>>332305074
Blunder of the decade

No wonder all the NDAs. Im more confident of my Vive knowing its been tested and vlogged about for months now.
>>
>>332306275
I believe so, but that's too abstract. The point about tesseracts and the role of the eight cubes can just about be mind-bending. I had a moment in graduate school where I felt like I understood higher-dimensional geometry, but that moment has passed and all I remember is the math.
>>
>>332306725
I'm more confident in the Sony VR since I'll waste less money.
>>
>inb4 PSVR gets 9.5
>>
>>332306667
This. People don't seem to consent that consent is retroactive and can be withdrawn before, during or after the deed.
>>
>>332307003
That's no reason to be confident in the performance and quality of the product. You're just taking less of a risk.
>>
>>332306630
VR without motion controls is a gimmick
>>
>>332307226
Yes.
There is no reason to be confident in any of those so taking the smaller risk is what I'm confident in.
>>
>>332307218
In what kind of a shithole do you live where such a rule applies?
>>
>>332306667
regretting it later doesn't mean she wasn't consensual the the time you retard
>>
>>332301172
>mainstream don't buy VR
>no content developed for it
>VR dead

Why are some of you too stupid to see this obvious death spiral?
>>
>>332307398
they call it the USA
>>
>>332307427
Save it for the judge
>>
>>332307447
So you're just gonna consent to buying a car and 3 years down the line void the contract because you don't actually consent and get your money back?

Not even the USA is that stupid. Maybe you armchair lawyers should shut the fuck up
>>
>>332307501
Well you have the general idea down, but I was talking about PSVR.
>>
>>332307574
No one makes you sign a release form before you have sex, retard. This analogy sucks.
>>
>>332307649
Hahahahaha, wow.
Good luck in the real world, kid. You're going to get assblasted for sure.
>>
>>332307734
At this rate you probably should if burgerland allows you to change your mind after fact and call it rape.
>>
>>332307429
VR doesnt need specific content to survive.
Just like joysticks and steering wheels havent died out from lack of mainstream adoption.

Its likely this gen will pay the bills long enough that gen 2 is good enough for the mainstream thanks to superior resolution and other improvements.
>>
>>332301172
The hardware just isn't there yet. It will be a few more years before we'll have a good VR device targeted at the consumer price point. Assuming this wave of VR devices don't bomb due to the high price and low spec. If these do pretty well and prove VR has a place in the market (I think it does, these devices are actually good compared to past attempts at VR) the tech will continue evolving and we'll eventually get a good device at a decent price point.

It sucks because the Rift was supposed to be that device, but it's still just an early adopter device.
>>
>>332305074
The velcro is the thing you dwell on?
>>
>>332305074
I tried to warn people here that the build quality was lacking on the Rift. One of the engineering samples I tried was beat to shit and they used cheap plastic in places. A bunch of people are going to have issues like this I imagine.

The Vive feels solid in comparison when I tried it. You also have a shitload of Vive Pre headsets already out in people's hands with no one complaining about build quality issues.

>>
https://twitter.com/TimSweeneyEpic/status/714478222260498432

>Very disappointing. @Oculus is treating games from sources like Steam and Epic Games as second-class citizens.
>>
>>332306630
Because they haven't tried it. Hand presence is pretty grounding for your immersion, but as actual controls they are kind of gimmicky. Personally I'm fine with just leap motion for hand prescense, and it's very possible for Oculus to the same thing with their IR cameras.
>>
>>332308007
Whats striking is that gpu/cpu power is what fell short in the end.

They could have made this gen with higher res but it was simply not possible without dropping frames to puketown.

These mediocre reviews must be a gutpunch to Oculus. And its only get worse since roomscale controllers will break the barriers for comparatively glowing Vive reviews.
>>
>>332308956
Yeah. I think more normal games with traditional sitting down will be eventually more popular on VR than roomscale, because that's just how most people play games. But higher resolutions are really necessary to make those compelling enough to prefer them in VR over a screen. Roomscale is really the best use of today's tech. Although a lot of people still don't understand how limiting it really is.
>>
How noticeable is screen door on OR? Do OR and HTC have the same screen resolutions?
>>
>>332309825
It's still there, but much less distracting, and really only noticeable when high contrast. Same resolutions, but OR lenses and display are a little better so its SDE is less. PSVR actually probably has the least SDE.
