The handheld meme is dying. Vita is the last Sony handheld. Nintendo will probably do a couple more before switching completely. Microsoft probably saw the market going this way and decided to stay out of it.

I think that, if they were going to do something like this, they should instead just make some sort of app along with a gamepad designed for phones/tablets and just try to make that work somehow. An actual handheld would be even worse of a gamble.
