Is this the best thing that happened to gaming in years?
>>
>>332272752
Literally perfection - the game

glad EA got btfo so hard and these guys saved the city building genre

but the DLC doesnt seem to be worth the money though, but hey cant have it all. Workshop support is fucking A too
>>
>>332272752
This is one of the best games released this decade.

BTW, Did they ever fix the traffic algorithm?
>>
>>332272886
i dont know, i never experience traffic problems myself

can you post a screenshot of where you encounter traffic problems? as im pretty sure 99% of the time its bad planning or design instead of a bug ingame
>>
How is the traffic in this game? Are the citizens in Cities as retarded as sims in Simcity when choosing how to get to work?
>>
>>332272923
It's not really a bug in the game, but the way the traffic algorithm works leads to backed up traffic with half-empty streets, because the cars will switch lanes to soon and don't know how to late merge.
>>
>>332272942
if you plan your roads well its fine
>>
>>332273090
example?
>>
>>332273247
Well people said that for Simcity too. And it was true, you can design the roads to cater to the idiocy of the sims, it just looks retarded. So I am wondering how much better Cities handled this.
Simcity 4's pathing was ok, but you can't follow the sims to work, so I guess that can not be used for comparison.
>>
>>332273502
i suggest you at least try out cities skylines, i bet you are gonna like it
>>
>>332273502
It really is up to you to make your roads work. It gets harder the bigger your city gets, as you imagine it would. Also you can follow people to work to test routes. Public transport also helps to reduce traffic. Even public footpaths.
>>
>>332273502
people in cities skylines will pick the shortest route regardless of traffic and won't use multi-lane roads properly
>>
The DLCs are god damn stupid though
>>
>>332273609
Paradox probably has some part of that.
>>
>>332273609
i agree

thank god they have free updates and they add content for free as well
>>
>>332273673
Is there any mod in Skylines that unlocks all the tiles at the start but not the stuff that comes with the tiles like buildings facilities and roads?
>>
So whats the deal with the new budget sliders?

You have night and day budget in cities skylines??
>>
>>332273090
Yeah, that was fixed months ago. Its all lanes all the time now, instead of just a single row of cars on a multi lane highway.
>>
>>332274158
so this game is indeed perfect?
>>
>>332272804
pretty much the paradox MO at this point. Create a fantastic base game then try to kike your shekels by releasing mostly shit DLC until the heat death of the universe.
>>
>>332274214
>of cars on a multi lane highway.
>>>
>Anonymous 03/28/16(Mon)10:43:22 No.332274209 ▶
well they give free shit too so thats cool i guess

but yeah i dont think the dlc is worth the money
>>
>>332272752
Don't like how roads are built.
Just utter frustration of try, fail, try, fail,
when you want the roads to look good and realistic.

Wish they had more types of roads also.
>>
>>332274386
nothing wrong with the stock roads

theres plenty of road mods

Not really, it's still just a traffic Simulator full of assholes who ignore the obvious route and take whatever route puts the most strain on your roads every single time. I practically had to rebuild my entire infrastructure halfway through my first city. Had to make the vast majority of inner city roads one ways.

My real beef is with the population algorithm, it's incredibly easy to get completely shut down by having high taxes to support programs that eliminate critical problems like fires and crime.

I can't seem to get my budget low enough to get my taxes below 9 percent effectivley and the city population just won't go anywhere until I do.

So I'm left in a catch 22, I lower the tax rate and bankrupt myself or at least drain my bank severely, only to raise taxes again and loose the population boost.

I've tried everything on one specific city but I can't get my budget to come out with some form of profit and still function while have sub 9% taxes. If I remove say free fire detectors shit just keeps burning down constantly which pushes people away anyway.
>>
>>332273671

Too bad Paradox killed Crusader Kings 2 with DLC.
>>
>>332274669
Killed? I'm about to start a game with 3 friends. The game would have died a decade ago without dlc, so I dont know what the hell youre talking about.
>>
>>332274718

I know the Horse Lords and Conclave DLC's were complete shit.
>>
>>332274768
Yeah, I don't have horse lords and not going to get conclave, I've heard that makes the game more annoying. But the rest?
>>
>>332272752
Does the snow dlc add an actual challenge into the game?
It all seems to be too easy unless I'm missing something.
>>
>>332274905
You can get a difficulty tuner mod to up the difficulty to your liking or preset values, the snow dlc adds in some small bits but unless you really like it isn't worth it.
>>
>>332274886

When I said killed with DLC, I didn't mean all DLC. I'm even someone who enjoyed the Indian DLC. But Horse Lords and especially conclave include updates that essentially break the game. I could roll back to an earlier version sure, but it worries me that the good mods will be based off the terrible new game mechanics.
>>
I always have fucking problems actually winning money in this game

i start my towns out small but i start to get more and more in debt

i always have like -3000 income

how do I get it like +3000 income?
>>
>>332275221
is it because i have a mod that adds more money in the start>
>>
>>332274424
Just told you that I dont like the stock roads
>>
>>332275705
then download road mods
>>
When you get tired of it after unlocking all the buildings, give factorio a try
>>
>>332275893
whats that
>>
>>332275221
You just have to be more patient. The money comes later. Don't over-build early on, just enough to sustain a small community. Make sure traffic can get in and out and plan for the future by using big roads because chances are your small community that you build at the start will become highly valuable land later on. Just build small. Eventually you have more money than God and that's without any addons. Also you get a bonus payout every time you hit a new population level, and you should be using that to increase values by building new infrastructure (schools, police stations, etc.) as they become available. Basically if you're going into negatives too early in the game you've overstepped yourself and need to scale back your expansion.
>>
>>332276045
but the problem is i dont substain

i get more and more in debt

i use money mods for extra money in the start because i always run out of money with the standard 70k when i start a new game
>>
>>332275893
it's a game that hooked me immediately after I got done with cities skylines
>>
>>332272752

It gets pretty boring quickly.

Too easy to make money.

>Easy to make money

literally already in debt and all I did was very little small roads, power and water

how is making money easy?
>>
>>332276503
you are not big enough to make large empty road networks yet
force everyone into the same areas until traffic piles up, and then expand slowly from there

once your city is busy as shit and new zones get buildings immediately, you can start planning really broad road networks.

Don't be afraid to zone industrial
>>
>>332276679
>large roads

literally wat

these are the smallest roads available
>>
>>332276503
fucking idiot. you look at that panel with green blue orange, start building shops and factories as demand increases
>>
>>332276729
no, I mean like how you built empty blocks with roads there in that image, upkeep is significant when first starting your city
>>
>>332276843
I know how to zone dumbass
>>
The game keeps crashing for me since snowfall.

good game though.
>>
Feel free to trade me this game. For free.

>>
>>332276503
Most likely because you went it expecting something like Simcity. Simcity players tend to have the entire region plotted out. They tend to pave a lot of big roads so it's easier later on to organize the city into grids.
In Skyline this is not advisable. You should first focus on building a small self contained community first. And don't think too much about where the big roads are going to be.
>>
>>332272752
Cities in Motion is funnier, but Skyline filled the gap people wanted.

i think im doing ok now

i guess the problem i always had was that having a big start budget was fucking up your economy somehow

but still, my citizens complain that they need shit build i dont have the money for yet
>>
>>332277497
if you don't build schools early enough, you'll have a huge base for industrial zoning, which makes great money early but of course makes pollution

you can also control infrastructure coverage by changing their budgets (i.e. school having a slightly larger coverage zone than others)

also there's a /cbg/ on /vg/ if you require more assistance
>>
>>332275813
road mods cant fix my issues with it
>>
>>332276503

I always have a small roundabout first, with one road going to residential and the other to an industrial bit.

2 sewage drainage and 2 water intake for future proofing. 3 wind farm things to keep going. (Yeah I just wokr up and can't remember names of shit)

I always only put down residential/industrial zones down when its in demand, else it always fails into a mess. Taxes are generally raised to about 11-14% if the income keeps going too low, but only adjusting with how bad the economy is. Yeah you'll be in debt for a little bit but things should bounce back up when industry starts getting going, and you should start seeing profit by the time between the first population milestone and the second (the milestone which unlocks garbage stuff).
>>
>>332278070

Also everything I build at the start is when the game is paused to compensate for the loss of weekly money that building roads and such brings.

>Literally perfection - the game

i fucking dispise this binary thinking

the game is mediocre but its heavily above the shitfest around it, thats why its praised

theres so much things about the game i fucking hate, were designed lazily/badly or were straight undone.

and im saying all this as a guy who spent hours building stuff like pic related in the game.
>>
>>332272752
>literally no way to lose unles you're sabotaging yourself
>basic budgeting
>you can just leave the game running and it'll never break
Add disasters, and it might be good, but right now it's a hot pile of shit with DLC on top.
>>
>>332274214
While the cost of all the EU4 DLC does add up, I don't even mind with all the hours I sink in the game with every new update.
>>
>>332278406

>>
>>332272752
No. I wish it had a grid snap road. I want an impenetrable concrete jungle nightmare. Game looks fine, but there's something about the visual style that throws me off a little bit.

better fire coverage, better crime coverage, more education, you get less fires when these things are improved.
also increase budget on fire ordinance so they send out a million trucks.

the only thing that makes me scratch my head about this game is the amount of people waiting at the bus stops..
there will just be 1,000 people at a bus stop, i'm afraid to see what would happen if Free Fares was enacted.
>>
>>332278721
what memes?

im just saying she did a fucking bad job as an art director.

the person in that picture is an art director of cities skylines, and the filename is a joke on her making women in workplace making look bad and preserving the stereotype.

fucking hell
>>
The greatest thing about this game is EA will be forever burned.

History will not forget this. People will look back on the city building genre, and see the gap that EA left after Simcity 4.

Then they'll see how horrendously shit Simcity 2013 was, and how everyone (except the people who buy all Sims DLC) hated it.

Then out comes Cities Skylines which received critical acclaim and has modding support which will give it 10 years of shelf life.

EA then closes Maxis Emeryville, permanently sealing its fate.

It's literally The Old Republic all over again, except this time we have an underdog who championed through its development with a team of 12 people.

What was the dev count for SC2013 again? 300? 350? Something like that. Fucking ridiculous they shat out such a terrible game that was planned to be a mobile port from the beginning.
>>
for the people having trouble making money:
don't pre-build road frameworks. you're wasting money on road that isn't needed.
instead, leave space in mind for highways and 6ers and build simple roads as you go, then just upgrade them later.
the upgrade tool is god-tier and really the meat and potato of this game.
