I rather would have had Olimar and Louie again.
Having 3 characters was stressful management.
He had a surprising amount of personality in the games. For a normal guy you can relate to, he had understandable mood swings in the face of potential death in Pikmin 1, his commentary on items in Pikmin 2 was great, and by Pikmin 3 his experience in the past 2 games left him a competent guy who was so good, he left behind powerups for other people just because he didn't need them.

I love him. You get a real sense for who he is by reading the treasure notes and captains logs, which is something I really hope they bring back in Pikmin 4. It just goes to show how great the little details of a game can bring it to a higher level.

I thought they handled it ok. I liked that you can leave a captain to do a simple task on their own like puck pikmin which you do something else. Given the choice I'd rather they would expand on what the idle captain can do on their own and bring it back to a two-man team.

The fact that corpses not only stayed around, unlike most nintendo games, but were also relevant to the mechanics of the game always stood out to me. That and the fact that pretty much nothing you fight in these games are evil, or doing anything but trying to survive themselves, made the Pikmin games feel very bleak to me.

Seems like yellows are on top of their shit. Reds are "surviving" at best. Blues not even that.

Olimar > President > Louie > Charlie = Alph >> Brittany
Louie is kindof a wildcard. If you are amused by all of the shit he causes, he's great. If it pisses you off, he's tied with Brittany.
Pikmin 3 is the weakest of the series in terms of story mode.
Every other mode it has is absolutely amazing though.
Co-Op/mission mode easily doubles the game's length, and is really fun.
It's honestly 2 > 3 = 1 (what 3 fails at 1 is really good at, and vice versa)
But it's easily one of Nintendo's most solid/original series'.
Even the worst Pikmin game is more skillfully crafted and polished than your average game.

Blue Pikmin are statistically more likely to be eaten over any other color of Pikmin, plus their onion location in 3 leaves them fuck-all for protection against predators. They survived in Pikmin 2 because the only creature they shared a body of water with was a Wogpole.
Yellow Pikmin are fairly cautious, as they are seen sitting atop of elevated plants in 2 and are completely locked away inside of a cavern in 3. I'd be impressed if they managed to die at all in that condition.

When you think of it, Yellows do have the best powers
Fire can, with effort, be survived from. And Pikmin can, under moderate circumstances, flail to shore when drowning. They learned how to use bomb rocks earlier than other Pikmin.
Electricity is always an instant kill, though. Full Immunity is the only way to survive it. And they're the only pikmin that get stronger from the element their immunne to.

Alright, so SOME electrical hazards are instant kill. It just so happens that all the ones we find in 2 are instant kill, the ones in 3 just so happen to be of a lower amperage and thus non fatal
That still means they are immune to an otherwise instant death.
