nearly a week of depression from this one baby. not half bad huh?
I mean, I play and have played so many games, and maybe I just don't actually play enough story driven games, but the only other game that's came close to the horrid feelings this game's given me is Crisis Core, and that was like, 6 years ago. But I don't remember the sadness lingering like it is now.In fact, this game's the only reason why I've been coming to /v/ lately. I had managed to stay away for a few months, but now I don't really feel like playing any games. I hope it goes away.
Thank you for being my friend.

I teared up at this game back in the day. In case you ever want to play this Zelda ripoff from 1998 based on a toy, don't read this spoiler:The basic plot is that you get sent back in time and you have to make a bunch of jumps through eras, Quantum Leap-style, to get back to your time. The first thing that happens is you wake up in a wizard's tower and meet him. He's a young idiot who can barely cast a spell, but you hit it off and he helps you. Over the game, you revisit him in each era as you wake up in his tower every time. So you're his best friend who visits every decade and a half or so, never aging. Eventually he grows into an elderly master wizard. On the last time jump, his tower is empty.

The last time I cried was like 5 years ago after FFVII: Crisis Core, which actually did make me cry a lot. But I haven't cried since then. I don't get it, I used to be a crybaby when I was in elementary school, but now I feel like I'm 'unable' to cry. There have been plenty of moments when I felt sad and felt as though I should be crying. Only one game has made me cry, and it was the end of Professor Layton: Azran Legacy.
Not because of any of the sad parts, but at the end of the game it shows Layton and Luke driving into the curious village.
After playing though all 6 games, I knew the ride was finally over.To make shit even sadder the person who made all of the puzzles for the Layton games died recently.
>>332251661
How is that game depressing? Don't worry about spoiling it I have no interest in pokemon.
Cried like a bitch at Red Rescue team and Explorers.
Didn't for Super though. The pacing was fucked and the recruit system/being able to freely switch out party members from the start made me feel less attached to the characters.also the twist sucked, plus the juxtaposition of your character crying on the hill while the credits rolled and that bomb-ass song that was playing really didn't help it feel emotional or anything like that. The postgame plot was especially disappointing as well
Only two games, Ghost Trick and A Link Between Worlds.
The former for its ending and the latter for the nostalgia. The Lorule Theme really brought me back to the first time I reached the Dark World in ALTTP.
I'd kill for an SMRPG remake/sequel, my life would finally be complete.
>>332260990
It's always easiest to tell when either one person or just one guy in a whole company is trying their hardest but it hurts when the product is mediocre as fuck. I know this is going to sound way out of left field, but Ride to Hell is gaurenteed to at least have 2 or 3 guys that worked on it that honestly tried their very best, because besides the game being absolute crap, some of the characters were pretty cool, the story had a few glints of potential, and the overall art design was pretty decent. The motorcycle customization guy alone is probably the most underappreciated guy in that whole project.

The idea behind the final boss is pretty decent, but it sort of sucked from how it was executed.
>Prince dies trying to put his dead friend in an appropriate grave
>Scientist tries to revive him, ends up as a flower (the one he liked)
>As a flower, lost ALL emotion. (As they try to explain, anyway. Dude was 100% asshole)
>Gets some insane power, revives himself as an adult with immense power
>All just because he wanted to feel love, a feeling he had lost when he died
>You break him down little by little in the fight, causing him to break down into tears and beg for forgiveness
>He thanks you when you finally win, and he frees everyone from a life-long prison
It's a good idea, don't get me wrong, but it was played VERY poorly. The buildup was non-existent beyond "Flowey seems like an asshole" and a few notes here and there.
>>332261490
Mystery Dungeon games play like proper JRPGs, not Pokemon games. They've got intense stories at times, some of which include legit death. Nothing edgy, as far as I know (I didn't play them either), but from the spoilers I saw, one of them was pretty god damned brutal.

>>332261490
The Mystery Dungeon games for the most part had unusually strong stories for something like Pokemon is it.
They do a pretty good job of establishing characters and getting you attached to them so when shit goes south [it usually does] is what tugs at you.
The theme in these games is that you're a human that was transported to the pokemon world for some reason or another, usually related to whatever plot shenanigans. And most of the time at the conclusion, your duty is done and you disappear back into the human world, leaving behind your friends and partners and all that jazz. It sounds super generic but they play themselves out really well. In Super's case, this time the one who disappears is your partner which was the twist

I think part of it was in, especially early on with rescue team, how unexpected it was that something like Pokemon would be so engaging.
The writing in them is pretty fantastic too. Characters are quirky and memorable without feeling forced or corny and while the plots themselves are kinda generic on paper they work really well.
The music definitely has something to do with it. I remember getting to the voidlands and hearing its music and getting creeped the fuck out, or the unease and loneliness of the frosty forest's themes.

Didn't cry at the ending because I didn't self-insert myself as the main character and because it's a video game. You escapist fags need to consider either therapy or suicide.

That's literally what you're supposed to do in PMD though, the idea is what if YOU became a Pokemon?
>>332262876
fuck you anon this doesn't work at all instead I'm stuck with 12-13 hour work days and coming home physically and mentally exhausted

Nigger, what are you dooooiiiiiinnnngggg????
Pretty cool, though. Why aren't there as many cool video game trailers as before?

If Nier taught me anything is that friendship turns people into monsters.
>>332263551
atleast you're able to support yourself and don't have to rely on others working 12-13 hour days to pay for you
>>332261490
I could go on for a while, but I'll try to keep it brief because it might not mean much to you if you don't like Pokemon.
At the beginning of MD games you pick what Pokemon will represent you and your partner. For one, the concept of taking cute 'animals' and giving them all characters is pretty charming in a cute and innocent way. And for at least 2/3rds of SMD, the story is really innocent and fairly shallow/generic. However, like >>332261880 said, shit hits the fan hard in SMD to the point where it really didn't feel much like a Pokemon game. Listen to this song for example
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SuOgw_grkI
That shit sounds like it's from OFF or something.
So the story takes a dark turn, all the while the game is supported by a fucking fantastic and diverse soundtrack that sets the mood and tone really well. The big climax of the story is a little over-the-top and cliche by JRPG standards, but still hype as fuck. When you finally save the world from mass destruction, your partner disappears and leaves your character sobbing on a hill for the duration of a 10 minute long credits sequence while extremely bittersweet music plays. I'm sure that gets the point across decently enough, but for further impact, you were essentially your partner's only real friend, and vice versa. Like the previous anon said, you're a human who's been turned into a Pokemon, so now your job is done, and the only true friend you've made in this foreign world is gone, leaving you alone. You do actually get your partner back in the postgame, but the reunion is a real letdown. It's just not emotional like it should be. No tears or hugs or anything. The story ends there too, there's no more dialogue between you and your partner
welp so much for being brief
>inb4 "whoa nigga!"

The ending, and most of the last half of Super Paper Mario fucked me up.

SPM was fucking nuts. Expected Paper Mario shenanigans and got Paper Silent Hill instead.
>>332263379
Tales of the Abyss fucked me up pretty hard during my first playthrough, but the thing that made me the saddest was probably Arietta's death. Poor girl just wanted to be with Ion but he wasn't even alive anymore.

I had to start a whole new game once I found out you could save him. Watching him slowly succumb to sickness because I didn't figure out the fish thing kinda fucked me up for a while.
Mass Effect 3 was a disappointment but had moments that made me a little misty-eyed. You know what I'm talking about. Fucking Salarians.
P3, protagonist deserved better than becoming a door. Just made me sad.
Dragon's Dogma True Final Ultimate End left me feeling pretty empty for a day, it's just depressing.
Tales of Symphonia bothered me once or twice with Exsphere stuff.
>>332264749
That anon's a fag but Marche dindu nuffin. Think of all of all the people who didn't get their shit fixed but instead turned into a monster.
