These are the quintessential indie games.

Everything else is pretty shit.

La Mulana is probably one of the greatest games of all time.

I can't wait for La Mulana 2. Holy fuck.

Literally 10/10, this is irrefutable. It's one of the greatest grid-based RPG's of all time.
>E.Y.E.
Still 10/10, one of the greatest RPG/FPS games of all time.
>La-mulana
Again, 10/10, the greatest 2D action/adventure game of all time.
>Shovel Knight
10/10, one of the best platformers of all time.
>Pathalogic
10/10, one of the best horror games of all time

All of these are creative, complex, are deep, are unique, are fun, and are god-tier.

To say "tasteless kiddies" play them means you don't know shit about videogames.

Everything else is 9/10.

The gameplay gets pretty tedious after a while, and it relies too much on the aesthetic and music to carry the passable mechanics. It's good, but overrated.

I should correct myself; Its not turning specifically, its how when you jump and turn you continue going in the direction you jumped towards instead of having full control over your movement while in the air. It ruins the game for me.

Because it takes control away from the player; one can't move wherever they want to while in the air. One is essentially stuck and has to deal with the consequences of the direction one chooses to jump. Compare that to most other platformers where you can move around while in the air to better control where you land. The way La Mulana's jumping works, you can accidentally hurt yourself instead of having the control to get yourself out of a mistake made in the middle of a jump.
I suppose that's not necessarily a bad thing, especially if the game is build around that, but I personally don't like it. It feels limiting.

I would say La-Mulana is about a 8/10 when you consider its faults. However it has 10/10 GOAT Music.

Every time I hear a track I get shivers, no other game has ever done what La-Mulana has done to me.

>Because it takes control away from the player
So? Less is more, adding features doesn't necessarily make them better.
>One is essentially stuck and has to deal with the consequences of the direction one chooses to jump
Yeah, you have to deal with the consequences of your actions. If you don't like that, then you should probably kill yourself because that's life, and it works well in the game.
>Compare that to most other platformers where you can move around while in the air to better control where you land.
Those platformers were directed to be about platforming explicitly, La-mulana is more of an exploration/action/puzzle based game, where the jumping fits and feels weighted and realistic.
>You can accidently hurt yourself instead of havin the control to get yourself out of a mistake
In spite of La-mulana's realistic type of movement, there's a TON you can do to prevent a mistake, such as letting go of the jump button or pressing right/left in midair.
>It feels limiting.
..so? Do you only play AAA games where you feel like the most powerful being in the world with an ego bigger than kanye west? I think that only means you have shit taste, anon.

>Do you only play AAA games where you feel like the most powerful being in the world with an ego bigger than kanye west?
Prefect description of the average 18 year old 'gamer' today. Castlevania had a less limiting, bit similar type of jump and that game is considered one of the best games ever. The point of La-Mulana's jump mechanics is for it to be used in puzzles and to make you think before you leap.
>>
>>332235535
I dont know if you have ever played La-Mulana EX, they straightened up some of the concerns NIGORO had with the game. Such as never mentioning to the player where you can heal. I think they had a statistic in Japan where less than 50% of the players who tried the game never got into the gate of guidance at all. I love this game but it really is too convoluted for the first dungeon or the beginning of the game for that matter.

I'll play more La Mulana and try to get over my hatred of the jump mechanics. Considering its not a platformer, I suppose its unfair to compare its mechanics to a platformer, and different isn't necessarily a bad thing. As I said, I just personally didn't like it.
>..so? Do you only play AAA games where you feel like the most powerful being in the world with an ego bigger than kanye west?

Since it was given suck praise I played Spelunky after beating La-Mulana thinking I was in for a treat. Then what I realized as i threw up in my mouth was that everyone likes bland garbage like Spelunky.
>>
>>332234296
Dust is easily the worst game I've ever played. It falls short in every single category imaginable, and what's worse is that it's not only painfully easy, the gameplay tries to advertise itself as deep and crazy when it's actually paper-thin with zero skill required.
>>
>>332236279
This. La Mulana was so try-hard I couldn't take it seriously. Spelunky on the other hand was just pure video game art.

Are they going to make a sequel ever?

Dust mechanically requires the player to learn how to parry and dodge appropriately throughout, especially in late game once they introduce those ones with knife hands. The last area and final boss require plenty of healing items in order to handle them as well, as attacks do major damage to your character to the point where you aren't allowed to get hit or else you'd lose.
Its worth noting that I played the game on Hardcore mode though, as I had heard the game was easy, and I feel as if that's the only way to play the game. But its simply not true that it doesn't require any skill; you would not get far without having quick reflexes and knowing how to parry and time your attacks/dodges. The game throws huge hoards of enemies at you in late game to where this is difficult, and only with the ability of near flight and Fidgets attacks does it make things more manageable. This is made harder when you run into enemies that spawn more enemies that can only be killed through Fidgets attacks, as you'll have to keep dodging and waiting for Fidgets guage to fill up and make sure you get close to the enemy spawner, which is difficult when you're also trying to platform and dodge enemy attacks.

There's no way Dust is the worst game you've played; even if you didn't like it, there are so many absolutely abyssmal quality games out there I can't see how you would've done it. Have you not played something like say, Shadow the Hedgehog? Or maybe Ultimate Civil War Battles? Or any licensed movie game?

>>332237725
I found that after the 4th~ boss I found that the game gets incredibly obtuse and you often find yourself in the position of 'Where do I go? What do I do?' if you really need to sneak a peak at a walk through to push yourself in the right direction.
>>
>>332237852
Its really not that complex. I remember struggling at the start cause enemies do a lot of damage and you don't, but by the 1/2 mark you have enough combos to never struggle again. I did play on hardcore, and have the platinum trophy. Im not the guy you replied to, but I would definitely not put this as a top 9 indie game.
>>
>>332237730
it is hard and it is permadeath but it is more like
you try things and you do it till you perfect it and you get more satisfying runs till you figure out the game works and you go really deep.
