I remember 7th Guest and its sequel 11th hour being pretty great adventure games.
Try the Quest for Glory and King's Quest series. Of course there's also the Monkey Island series. These are all your basic great entry level adventure games.
You might want to start with Lucas Arts adventure games before touching Sierra ones, because you can't get stuck or die there so you can take it a bit easier.
Sam & Max Hit the Road, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and Maniac Mansion 2 are pretty good.
Then you can move to Sierra Games like the King Quest and Quest for Glory series and get bullied hard.
Also reminder that King Quest VI is a masterpiece.
Pretty much any classic Lucas Arts adventure. They are all great.
