Didn't Persona 3 do the same thing? Though I've heard they added honorifics where they never existed in the Japanese version. When official localizers use honorifics, it always seems like they screw things up. Take Persona 2 for instance, I know that some honorifics are used in the English version of IS, but for some reason no one calls Maya "Maya-nee", they call her "Big Maya". Why? You're already using san and some others, why not use "nee"? If you're afraid of people getting confused then you shouldn't be including the honorifics in the first place.
I don't really mind honorifics in translations/localizations, though I don't like using them myself. I do though because not using them can cause issues. It's not so bad when working with the creator(s) or the company that's working with them though.

Yakuza had a honorifics in the dub of the first game, and they outright changed characters names for no reason at all. The title itself is kinda shit compared to the original.
